9 year old daughter LOVED IT!
I am writing this from two points of view....mine and my 9 year old daughter. In my point of view this is a nasty book and I wouldnโt have bought it without being begged and her offering to use her own money. The title says it allโฆWreck This Journal. You literally do. You end up with a book that is thick with dirt and holes, drawing and scratches, and yesโฆspit. As a mom, this seemed ridiculas to me, and I consider myself a fun mom. HOWEVERโฆ.. My 9 year old daughter wanted this so badly, and I got the duct tape cover edition because she is into duck tape projects. She got this at about 11am in the morning and completed the whole thing by dinner. I was shocked! However, she was so proud of it and did all of the stuff that I had to look at each page. Had I known that she was planning on doing the whole thing in one sitting I would have told her to wait and pace herself. But it was her money, her book and her time. About two weeks later, she asked if she could have another one but a different color. She said she wanted to take her time and do it better. (Other than the drawings, Iโm not sure how that is possible). I told her to save her allowance and show me that she really wants another one, she did and she has it in her room about ยฝ done. I think she forgot about it because she hasnโt touched it in a while, but when her friends come over, she gives them a page or two to do.

Be creative and joyful!
I took this on a weekend getaway and it was the highlight of my trip. I brought watercolors, rubber cement, scissors and picked up some pretty travel brochures at the tourist spots. Then let my creativity rip. I giggled, and created and my inner child swooned with joy. I was so blessed to find this for pennies at a garage sale, untouched and new. Perhaps it had been a gift from someone and never taken the time for. IF YOU GET IT, do yourself and your inner child a favor, USE IT! I've already gifted two people a copy as I hope they'll have as much fun as I have in playing with this perfect adult "toy."

LOTS OF CREATIVE OUTLETS!
My daughter asked me for this book at the beginning of summer. Wish I had known then, what I do now, - that this darn thing would become what I would probably describe as a ? new family member in the house ? ... Since it has arrived, she has fed it, slept with it, showered with it, gone on walks with it. It has accompanied us on various outings, its been decorated more than Lady Gagas' wardrobe.. has artwork in it now that would make Picaso jealous. You name it - its probably been done to this journal. For one week, she bugged me to take her to this one park that has a tall bridge over some of it. Finally, I did ( of course, book in tow ). We got there, and she made a bee line for the bridge. Got to the top, and promptly flung this goofy thing over the edge to the ground ( not water, haha ). O.o Needless to say, she has had a blast with this book, and, its been a great joy to see her so interested in it, and to fill it up. I would highly recommend this journal to the adventurists at heart. btw - for all that this book has been through, its in REMARKABLE shape!

Author is a Master of Unconventional Art Prompt Ideas
This is my second version of this book. I enjoyed the suggestions from the first one so much, I bought this second one. This is a book you write in, draw on, step on and destroy, so if you use it as recommended, you might need to buy a second one. If you don't use it as directed, you're missing the point and missing out on some creative ideas for your art work.

I need more of these!!!!
Absolutely love these journals!!!! I bought this and the color one and I love them both! From someone who suffers many mental illnesses I found these to be very helpful, relaxing, therapeutic, fun, and great stress relief. I showed my journals to everyone in my therapy group and they rang from all ages and they absolutely loved it and wanted one. I always recommend these to people I meet with mental health problems. My friends and family get a kick out of it. I'm a 29 years old and it's definitely for any age. It helps with my depression alot and I would absolutely recommend these for absolutely anyone. I plan on getting the rest and also get ones in diary size once I'm done with all the paperbacks. Which I recommend getting a paperback first.

Great distraction for those on the teen roller coaster
Well, my daughter is 16 and going through her first serious breakup/makeup cycle and it's not pretty! We celebrate Chanukah and Christmas and it's hard thinking of enough great presents, oh, how I miss the days of toys, books and dolls! Anyway, one night we gave her this book as part of her Chanukah gift. She happened to have had a fight with the boyfriend, and the word grumpy doesn't begin to describe it. But she opened this, with an eyeroll and a what's this, and halfheartedly thumbed through it. But miraculously she got caught up in this intriguing book...and then got into it. It's a harmless and fun way to let out a little tension, especially for her because I'm such a freak about stuff and never let her make a mess. (well, she makes a mess, but I ride her about it constantly!) This book enourages, no, forces, you to make a mess, get a little chaotic, and to just let go and enjoy it. In fact I think I can use a copy myself. Get this book, so when your kid becomes a teenager you'll be prepared with this fun stress reliever!!

Great Creative Purchase
My daughter (12 years old) really wanted this journal. After looking at the suggested retail cost of $15 I said no. After finding it for $9 on Amazon I figured I would order it for her. It arrived right away in perfect brand new condition. My daughter was so excited she couldnโt put it down. There are funny and creative things to do on each page. For example on page says put water on this page. So my daughter did. It made that page a bit wrinkly. Then one page says draw a pic while standing on one foot. My daughter thinks this is the best thing ever. So glad I saved money ordering from Amazon. And so happy my daughter loves it. We highly recommend this journal.

gut
Viel kann ich nicht sagen, das Buch ist gut als geschenk oder fรผr sich selbst. Mir machts spaร die "aufgaben" zu machen und das buch langsam zu zerstรถren.

Great fun and worth purchasing
My daughter (age 11) loves this! She is a bookworm and looks after her books with pride. However, to be able to demolish pages, ripping pages out, in addition to wiping dirt on a page, she has found her inner rebel with much laughter! Great fun and worth purchasing.

Fun, Long-Lasting Activities
If you like altered art journals, you like these. Basically, Keri Smith has wrote a book full of illustrations and journal prompts. These prompts are more like activities to do - an example would be "document your dinner - rub, smear, splatter your food, use this page as a napkin", "make a paper chain", "collect fruit stickers here". This isn't a book for people who like to write, just mostly "crafty" or "destructive" prompts. My only complaint with this journal is that the pages seem especially thin. Sharpie markers bleed through, grease from your food stain other pages, and even simple things like ball point pens seem to mark the other pages with normal pressure. (I had engraved lines on the other pages from pens.) If you are a perfectionist, you'd want to have gesso or white paint on hand to neaten up some of the backs of the journal pages. Some of the prompts don't really make sense - "compost this journal", "tongue painting", and "chew on this page" make me worried because they come after dragging your journal outside or even rubbing it with dirt. That said, you can do any page in any order, so you can avoid the ick factor by doing so! It's a fun journal, prompts are written in basic language, and almost any age can enjoy a journal like this. It's basically a large scale activity book that challenges your viewpoint on how to treat a paperback book! ** This book's activities/prompts will last you a long time. You can choose how involved your are with your prompts, or you can choose just to be destructive - no matter, it's fun and can get those creative brain cells going!
