When using the induction pen, do you need the other end of the cable plugged in? Can it be used to locate the end of a cable in a bunch.

When using the induction pen, it is non-contact. nf 8209 network cable tester can measure whether the line inside the wall is charged, but the depth cannot be too deep.

Networking is new for me. I need something that can check for cable issues and to locate cat5 in a server room. I assume this does it and more?

My job requires a lot of fault finding with cat5/6 etc and this unit does everything I need. From end to end testing providing detailed continuity results and the length test is pretty accurate for locating breaks in the cable (although my unit only tests up too 100m reliably, 120m according to the data sheet) Port flash is handy if your working in POE switchers for identifying ports. POE voltage is good if certain devices require a minimum voltage (PTZ cameras generally) The trace test is weak however, anything over 100m and my unit struggles. Hope that helps
