Great Looking LED Lamps with Integrated Recessed Housing
Do your research! We recently remodeled our kitchen and added recessed lighting. There are numerous choices and decisions. After doing some research we looked at the Sylvania products. These often rated very well. Our first decision was between PAR30s or BR30s. We selected on the BR style as it the light pattern is slightly wider. The next decision was the temp. Again, buy some test lamps. The 4000K and 5000K were much too "blue." These are "3000" which are not as "warm" as traditional incandescent bulbs, but appear to be more natural looking. Do you need dimmable lamps? These are dimmable and Sylvania's website has documentation listing approved dimmer switches for this model. The final decision, which might be the most important, is the Color Rendering Index (CRI). Cheap LED lights typically have low CRIs. These are rated at 84, which is respectable and most lamps in this price range have a CRI of 80 or less. You can get a higher CRI, but be prepared to pay more. Finally, because this was a new installation, we decided on a lamp with the integrated recess kit. This saved us from buy the bevel and trim rings, and we estimated that at $8 to $16 dollars per fixture. Here are the results. These look great in our new kitchen!!A 4-star was only given because the reliability has not been tested. These are rated as 35,000 hours, which equates to 11 years assuming 8 hours of daily usage. If all are still working by next year, I'll come back and re-rate these lamps.Good Luck!

Two different models, two different fits.
We purchased 23 of these lights and when we started to replace our original lights, we found out that there were two different designs. Some of them did not stay flush to the ceiling and were somewhat loose. Not that they would fall out, but there was an 1/8th of an inch gap showing a dark space between the white rim and the white ceiling. It was the weakness in the little wires you see protruding at the base. The newer (I assume they were newer as the design of the wires were better and stronger and the base was a different color) had no such problem. So we replaced the gapping ones in the kitchen with the tighter fitting ones. We are going to use the others in our VERY HIGH great room ceilings, as soon as we can find someone who is able to get up there to put them in.

Good quality cans for an EXCELLENT price.
I bought these cans to replace some Halo cans I bought from Lowe's a couple of years ago whose LED drivers had failed. They were less than half the price I paid for the Halos, and I was a bit nervous about their quality. When I unboxed them, my fears grew worse. They were significantly smaller. The Halo cans are built around a MASSIVE aluminum heat sink, where these Syvanias are not. I thought that surely these tiny things with no guts at all would be garbage. Well, I was wrong. They're super easy to install in most can housings. I somehow lucked into getting the same proprietary connector as the Halo cans had, so I didn't even have to use the provided Edison adapter daisy-chained to another adapter like I expected. The lights are rated for the same lumens, but the new ones are brighter than the Halos. Color temp seems to be true to spec as well. I highly recommend these.I can't speak to their lifespan, as I just got them last month, but if they outlast the Halos, I'll be happy. One point of warning: these will NOT fit a 7" can. Many 6" can lights will fit in a 7" housing with a Dumbo trim, but these will not. If your housing is less than 20 years old, it's almost certainly a 6" or 4" housing, but if you're not sure, just measure it center-to-center.

The winning choice!
We are planning on building a new home soon that will use around 50 recessed lights and wanted to make sure we were going to be happy with our purchase. We bought a few other popular models from the big box stores and installed them in our current home's existing cans. Our electrician suggested we use Sylvania saying that it's all they use and they very rarely have any problems with them.We bought one from Amazon to try side-by-side with the others, and I'm glad we did! We found that the light was the right color balance for what we were looking for. The others we tried were either too pink, or too stark white. Also, when turning the lights on the Sylvanias start up faster than the other brands. It may not be a big deal to most people, but you get used to instant light when you hit the switch. Works flawlessly on an old dimmer switch too.The fit and finish was also much better on the Sylvanias. On one of the other lights you can see shadows and dark spots around the edge of the plastic lens making them look kind of cheap. You wont find that on this Sylvania. It's a few bucks more per light than the others we are testing, but we think it's going to be well worth the extra cost.

Great light, somewhat poor design.
These were so easy to install and have great light output. I replaced the 4 lights in my living room. However, the light was a little too bright, so I installed a dimmer. All is well with that. The only real complaint I have is the springs are not strong enough to hold the light up in a metal can. They kept slipping down. The solution I had to do is use two-sided tape behind the flange. That works well, but I bet it will pull my paint off if/when I have to replace them.

These are awesome. We just finished the basement and put 18 of these lights down there. We also installed a Lutron dimmer (DVCL-153P). This dimmer was listed as a compatible dimmer via amazon and also via Sylvania's website. All the lights were flickering and not able to go to full brightness. I called Lutron instead of trying a bunch of different dimmers. After trouble shooting with their tech support the issue was that we had two dimmer switches on a 3 way circuit. You can only have one set of dimmer switches on a 3 way. So if you have two switches to your set of lights (we have one switch for 9 lights), two sets of switches together for 18 lights. We have two places to turn these off and on. One can be a dimmer, the other cannot. I traded out one dimmer for a regular switch and they work great now.
