My set didn't come with a ball. I didn't realize it. What type of ball u think I can buy for 7 year old that will knock pins down?

The ball is the best and most expensive part of the bowling. It weighs about 4-5 lbs and made from some kind of synthetic rubber that rolls very nicely. My 7-year old can bowl it just fine and love the ball. You can buy it separately online only I think (could not find it sold separately at any of the sporting store) but it'd cost a lot about $40.

Does the pin guide mat have indents for the pins to be set in or is it a flat mat?

The material is hard paper/cardboard type material. It has hole cut outs showing you where to place each pin. It's folded when delivered. You have to unfold it, lay it flat (which can be tough) then place the pins. I didn't like using it. So I just used it as a template and bought stickers showing the pin placement. We set the pins on the stickers.

Im having a frat party atmosphere type of event indoors. Would this bowling set be entertaining enough for a young adults crowd? Or a little immature?

I guess it depends on how "mature" the young adults are. i think it could be fun for them. I bought it for a non-profit that has programs for developmentally disabled adults withvarying degrees of ability. They enjoy it, and I am an "old" lady who could enjoy it.Adults played it at a family/staff picnic they had.

Can you fill the pins with sand to weight them?

Yes. There is a plug at the top to add the sand.
