What does each button do? Can you program buttons to do different things?

Well you have your standard Mouse1(Left)Mouse2(right)Mouse3(scrollwheel) Mouse4(Side Bottom button) Mouse5(side Upper Button) Mouse 4-5 are what pretty much make it a gaming mouse since you can use them to program in game. The Button next/on top of Mouse One is really just a auto double Click. and Your DPI Which goes Red1000,Green1600,Blue2400,White3200 DPI.

Is this mouse good for large hands?

To be honest, it's about how you hold it. My hands are below average size (my middle finger is approximately 3.5 inches), but it feels uncomfortable to hold any other mouse considering how comfortable I am with this mouse.

Is there a way to assign the side buttons to different tasks?

x-mouse will let you customise every button on any mouse, its a free program. Totally stable I have used it for years on windows including 8.1.

How do you know what dpi setting you have it on, does the color change accordingly to the dpi setting?

When plugged in, the mouse will flash red. Every time you press the dpi button, it will flash a different color.Red-1000Green-1600Blue-2400White-3200
