Good if you don’t know the Arabic alphabet
Not the best of the Arabic for dummies book. This one has no arabic letters and everything is ltransliteration. It’s good for someone who doesn’t know the alphabet and wants to know basic phrases.

A Remake of "Arabic for Dummies"
Had I not viewed "Arabic for Dummies" at my local library, I would have rated this a 5 star. +gives good background information (of Arabic language & culture) +needed information pretty easy to find +small and easy to carry - NOT really a phrase book; it's a smaller version of the larger book: Arabic For Dummies. -the transliteration for /i/ (as in bit) is consistently "pronounced" as /ee/ (beet). As I've been informed, this has to do with the author's English/not American accent. But the "error" seems to be consistent. +I've made the adjustment for myself and have kept it moving! Overall I'd say: if you can live with the negatives listed above, the original Arabic For Dummies would be a better buy. The books are basically the same plus you get audio and many more examples. A better buy.

Wrong for me
Bought it to help me communicate with my husbands family. Apparently Moroccan Arabic is different so except for a few phrases it won’t help me. Seems to be pretty inclusive in general for a basic starter.

More of a grammar book than a phrase book
I bought this item expecting a lot of useful phrases in Arabic for the amateur. Instead, I got some failry lengthy discussions of Arabic grammar. Yes, there are some phrases but I actually found that the most common and useful phrases were not in this book. Once in country, my colleagues armed me with what is really useful.

Not in arabic script
Only transcribed sentences, not in original arabic script. Phrases are also not very useful in practical circumstances. A real shame!

Learnt a few phrases very quickly.Tried out on egyptian friend who understood me,no one understands my english so that's a bonus. Seriously now,I found this book very easy to use.The description for pronounciation very helpful.Light weight for travelling and sure to help in most situations on holiday.
