Aion , originally published in German in 1951, is one of the major works of Jung's later years. The central theme of the volume is the symbolic representation of the psychic totality through the concept of the Self, whose traditional historical equivalent is the figure of Christ. Jung demonstrates his thesis by an investigation of the Allegoria Christi, especially the fish symbol, but also of Gnostic and alchemical symbolism, which he treats as phenomena of cultural assimilation. The first four chapters, on the ego, the shadow, and the anima and animus, provide a valuable summation of these key concepts in Jung's system of psychology. Review: Tudo correto. - Tudo correto. Review: THE ROLE SYMBOLS PLAY IN OUR LIVES - I consider all forms of Christianity to be more or less Gnostic in nature. They all emphasize the importance of knowledge in uncovering the "mysteries" of GOD. I was raised in a Southern Baptist family. Our religious activities were sporadic. Faith lacked any sense of urgency. Because of my early life I did not acquire many of the doctrinal prejudices of Christianity. That being said, I found Jung's approach to the archetypes and symbolism of religions as a whole and Gnosticism in particular extremely fascinating. His concepts of wholeness and balance are Aristotelian, but his view of religion Platonic. I believe Jung misjudged the influence "high religion" played in some of his conclusions. This represents a sort of summation of his life's work and research. Be prepared to look up the definitions of technical psychological terms and various ancient religious and mythological names and terms. Jung was very much a 20th Century man living through the "1950's". If you are prepared to make a serious attempt to understand the material, you will find it the most enlightening book you will ever read. His understanding of people is unparalleled.

THE ROLE SYMBOLS PLAY IN OUR LIVES

A Profound Mirror of the Self
Carl Jung’s Aion is one of those rare books that doesn’t just inform — it transforms. It explores the deepest layers of the human soul through Christian symbolism, astrology, and alchemy, revealing how the figure of Christ represents the unfolding of the Self within each of us. This isn’t light reading. It’s dense, symbolic, and best approached as a meditation rather than a manual. Yet for those drawn to the mystery of shadow and light, it illuminates the inner journey like few works can. Jung exposes the hidden tension of opposites — the ego and the divine, good and evil — and shows that true enlightenment comes through integration, not escape. Aion is a sacred mirror: challenging, illuminating, and utterly life-changing. For seekers, mystics, and visionaries, it’s essential reading.

Some of Jung’s best work, MUST READ
If you want depth and be captivated by Jung, this is the book for you. It has a clear structure, but you may need some background knowledge if you are not familiar with Jung. If you want to start your Jung journey with this, don’t be discouraged. This book changed the course of my life, and set me on a new trajectory, and I am forever grateful for it. Enjoy!
