Donner Distortion Pedal Extreme Driver Analog Effect Pedal A good pedal to this reviewer’s ears, very reasonably priced. It’s supposedly suspiciously similar to the Boss DS-1; I couldn’t really say. It may be a bit “fizzy” for some, but I like that. I use it mainly for punk rock; I’m not so much of a heavy metal person. It avoids the infamous volume drop of the DS-1; if anything, when the volume is at full, there’s a volume increase. Also, the tone knob appears to be active, as opposed to just rolling off the high-end when turned anti-clockwise. A trio of good variations in tone via the selector switch, all of which I like. I use it through a totally clean sounding combo, no boosting an already overdriven amp, no stacking/cascading multiple overdrive/distortion pedals, or that sort of thing. Humbuckers & single coils are both used; it’s all good to me. There’s a lot to like here; as always, it’s all in the ears of the beholder.

Livré sans alimentation (transfo 9v) et à part une petite amplitude sur mon ampli, n'apporte rien de plus. Déçu par le produit.

I've been a bedroom guitarist for about 2 years, with a Mustang L25 amp that has all sorts of built in filters, so that I haven't really needed to buy any pedals before this. The two things missing from the Mustang are a drum machine and a Looper, and I've reached a point in my development that I wanted to start experimenting with those things. This unit offers both in a compact, easy to use box. First of all, it's a drum machine. Everybody says to practice with a metronome, but practicing with a tireless drummer is even better. It has 10 different beats of 10 different styles, for a total of 100 beats. Most other drum machine boxes I looked at had a fraction of the number of beats. You can adjust the volume and tempo, and it is easy to navigate between beats. Super simple, the beats sound real, and it's very intuitive to operate. Then there is the Looper. I spent about an hour playing with it, and figured it out in that time. It was that easy to operate. I quickly found out that once I laid down my first track, I could instantly dub a second track over it. It has up to 40 different memory tracks, and you can dub over those, so you have far more tracks to loop than you'll ever need. After that, if you want to save your project, you have the ability to download it into your computer. I haven't played with any of that yet, but I doubt it would be a problem. The box is metal, solid, and a bit heavy, and feels substantial. The paint and decals feel thick and substantial as well. The entire unit feels like a high quality piece that isn't going to crack or fall apart. It was clearly created to be a professional piece of gear. It operates off an AC adapter that I had to order separately so order that with the Looper, or you'll find yourself disappointed when you can't use it until you order an adapter. My only wish is that it had an on/off switch. I have to unplug the adapter when I'm not using it, but that's not a big enough deal to deduct a star. This is the first piece of gear I've ordered from Donner, who I've been curious about, and I am 100% satisfied. If this is the kind of quality I can expect from Donner, I will definitely be buying other Donner products in the future.

Non-Sound Stuff • Like all Donner boxes, this is built like a tank. • Super quiet on/off switching • Small size makes it way easy to fit on an effects board and throw in the gig bag for rehearsal/jams. • Dials turn smoothly, are easy to reach and do their specific jobs “evenly” (not big jumps in gain, tone or level along the spectrum of turn) • Toggle is easy to access, easy to read and clicks satisfyingly • No battery: Could be a plus or minus, depending on who you are/what you want. I love it. I never have to worry about inconvenience of batteries crapping out (and keeps form factor small) • If you like keeping your gear pretty, the box it comes in is very sturdy and the easy-access “hatch” design makes for easy in/out Sound Stuff • Playing my budget-conscious Epiphone Les Paul Jr. with a P90 in it and my Epi G-400 with stock humbuckers through my decidedly also-budget-conscious Monoprice combo amp. • Simplicity is its strong suit. 3 dials and a toggle allow you to access a huge array of overdriven/distorted sounds without any chance of paralysis-by-analysis of some other pedals that “offer” 6 dials, 3 toggles, 4 sliders and a partridge in pear tree. • The toggle gets you in the general neighborhood of where you want to be with tone (warmer overdrive-y, more traditional “general distortion or more modern-metal-ly). • Then, the level, gain and tone let you literally dial in the sound you are looking for. If you really want to super-fine-tune, you really don’t need more than your amp’s controls to get you right where you want to be. I’ve found adding some significant amp gain really adds some throaty-ness. • Range of tones is impressive coming out of one box. Unless you are recording or really trying to clone a very particular sound, I’m not sure you’d need much more than this in most situations. From a warm blues overdrive boost to a pretty industrial metal sound if you are pushing hot pickups through the Ultra mode with the tone way up. • Very quiet, no hiss or buzz. • I’d say the high end of the tone zone gets very edgy and bright, especially on Ultra and Normal. So be careful with that, unless you are looking for that aggro tone that will cut through the mix (and through my nerves). To be fair, it’s also a nice way to “sharpen” up some neck pickup tones. Closing Great versatile value. Simple, sturdy box that gives you a ton of tonal options in the distortion/overdrive area for a very fair price.
