Solid Oak Post. I’m very pleased.
This post is as good as you can get. Don’t listen to that one review where that guy has no clue as to what he’s talking about. He complained that it’s hollow. They ALL are. This one is solid oak wood no filler. It’s hollow so you can set it with the center stump and the post slides over it. Great product and a Lot cheaper than Lowe’s that wants $450 foe ONE Post!

Perfect product for easy updating.
This was the exact item we needed to update our 1994 stairs with minimal effort. Well made and easy to install. Wood was beautiful, would be very pretty stained.

Superior quality and craftsmanship
These are the real deal-not your big box knock offs. The quality and the finish of the wood and trim is top notch. These added the look and feel of a custom installation from a do it yourselfer.

well made, but this is a sleeve made of 1x stock. it needs to slide over a fixed 4x4 (actual dimension is 3.25" x 3.25"...so, a ripped down 4x4)

Hollow & Poor Miter Joints
Yesterday I received my order of 3 posts (4691 6-1/4" Plain Box Newel Wooden Staircase Support Post for Stair Remodel), and was disappointed on a couple of levels. First, the posts are not solid as claimed -- they are loose-fitting sleeves which fit over a relatively short section of 3 1/4" square stock. I feel that the product description of "Solid Wood (no veneer, no laminate)" is misleading. Second, because they are not solid, their corners are comprised of mitered wood and I found the joints to be of poor quality on every post; typical gaps were 3/32" x 4". Once the posts fully acclimate to Colorado's dry climate, a can of wood putty will fix the unseemly gaps. That said, if they were solid in the first place, there would have been no issue. While I think that these posts could be better, I do feel that their relative value is good when compared to what Home Depot and Lowes have on hand.

Good looking alternative to solid timbers.
They are not solid Oak but the veneer is firmly attached. Great product for the price.

Well made and finish-ready
This newel post is well made from oak. The base is hollow, in order to accept the solid oak plug that it ships with for mounting purposes. I’m picky about items like this, because my own craftsmanship matters to me. I wouldn’t want to use something that isn’t of high quality or subpar fit and finish. This item satisfies me on both counts.
