Norton 1601H 690 1601 Series Adjustable Hold Open 1 Door Closer, Satin Aluminum

I own a commercial property, and I have installed a lot of door closers. Norton simply makes the best closers I have ever used. Installation and functionality are excellent. Their friction hold open feature works perfectly, and I have Norton closers on fairly light weight doors and extremely heavy doors.

Don't skimp on this. I bought 2 cheapo door closers until I got this one and wish I would have bought this in the first place.

This product came quickly and was the best priced door head I could fine. I do wish it came with some instructions on how to uninstall previously used door heads though that was my biggest struggle. Installing this product was pretty simple and has held up great.

I ordered this particular door closer for my metal fab shop. It has steel doors, 7'x3', so they are heavy and a big sail when it's windy outside. As a habit one door stayed open during the day while anyone was at the shop working. And I drove off one afternoon and left the door wide open overnight. It happens. Luckily nothing was stolen before a neighbor noticed it and shut the door for me. My door opens to the outside of the building, with the hinges on the left side of the door as you walk up to the building. I gleaned enough information from the absolutely piss poor instructions to drill my holes in the right locations after an hour or so studying the hieroglyphics included with the closer. I wanted to be able to have the door hold itself open, and still firmly close with a bump. Mine doesn't work like that, but it does close the door just fine. Probably because I could not decipher the almost-instructions and did something incorrectly during the install. Seriously for such a good product, the OEM should fire everyone involved with those instructions and start over with new people. I would be ashamed to be part of anything so convoluted and ultimately frivolous as the instructions that came in the box with the door closer I received. Just don't include them maybe if the installer is going to have to figure everything out on their own anyway. Throw a sticker in the box or something else instead.

Replaces old broken unit perfectly.

it works well. Takes a lot of study of the very vague directions. I still need to fine tune the settings with the set screws on the unit but the directions are awful. Someone needs to do a rewrite.
