My betta is lethargic and hiding with some scale discoloration, will this help?

There are a lot of reasons for his not feeling well, so the short answer is: It might. It seemed to soothe and help my little guy, and I don't think it hurts the fish at all; but there could be issues with the water, or he may be constipated, or have some fin rot or a bacterial infection. While the BettaFix can help in the short run, you have to find out the cause of his illness and address that. Check out bettatalk.com or bettacare101.com, they had a lot of helpful info and tips for caring for ailing bettas.

When using Bettafix do you remove the filter?

This is somewhat of a science experiment, but I don't see the filter being a problem with water soluble products like Bettafix - which I purchased from my local pet store not Amazon. I changed the filter completely and downgraded to a smaller BioBag filter pack than the one specified for the tank. However the filter is completely submerged in the water in the 1 gallon tank after a deep clean and a good saturation of Bettafix over the course of several days. I also added two drops per day via pipette of AAA Tea Tree Oil from Australia which is the same variety of tea tree oil that the active ingredient "Melaleuca alternifolia" or "Melaleuca" in Bettafix. After about a week the fin rot has definitely improved and the fish - "Danny Ocean" is a lot more active. Another factor was the 50 Watt heater I purchased for his (1) one gallon tank. It does keep the temperature at approximately 90 degrees verses 78, but the cold office temperature is probably what got them sick in the first place. After a week, I haven't seen any repair, but the fish certainly seems to be more active. Hope this helps.

Can I use this with snails in the tank? Also does this work for velvet?

I use this in my tank with a betta, snails, bristle nose plecos, and black kuhli loaches with no issues. This product is more for bacterial infections. Velvet is a parasite, find Erythromycin for parasites.

Will this still work for abrasions if my filter is running?

I am not an authority on this, but I believe this product will work even with a filter running. It is a liquid that dissolves into the water and is probably smaller particles than your filter.

ALMOST KILLED MY FISH

DONT BUY THIS !! I would give negative ratings if i could!!Bought this to treat my dear betta’s fin rot. Otherwise a healthy happy fish.I used less than half the recommended dosage.(1/2 teaspoon for 12l is what i used, recommended dosage is 1/2 teaspoon for 3.5 l)After two days of this dosage in a quarantine tank. I noticed my fish tilting sideways and very lethargic floating at the top. Shocked I immediately put my poor dying fish back in its original clean tank with a catappa leaf and supervised it struggling and floating for a few hours. At the moment (8 hours later) hes in stable condition but lethargic and clearly recovering. Praying he makes a healthy recovery from this poisonous medicine that should be pulled off the shelves.DONT RISK UR FISHS LIFE USING THIS TRASH.

This product did not fix the fin rot my fish had. He ended up dying. I noticed after I changed his water, and added this, his gills couldn't handle it. I feel like it was a waste of money.

Didn't do nothing for my Betta's fin rot, DONT BUY IT BIG WASTE OF MONEY

If there was an option to give no stars I would have given but to write a review u need to add atleast 1 star.This so called medicine is absolutely useless, I used it on 2 of my bettas separately in the given dosage for over 1 week, but to my vain nothing happened, their fin rot was still getting bad and this "liquid" did nothing to my betta's, the only thing im grateful at this point is that this medicine didnt cause any adverse effects on my beloved betta's.It is a big waste of money. Don't buy it !

Saved My Betta

Our poor elder Betta development a condition where he couldn't swim well, just floated and his fins were deteriorating. Also some sort of white film was growing in the tank. This medicine and regular water changes worked wonders. He's back to his old self now! Fins have mostly grown back, not as flowing, but looks like a healthy female Betta. Amazing recovery!
