desertcart.com: Mathletics: How Gamblers, Managers, and Fans Use Mathematics in Sports, Second Edition: 9780691177625: Winston, Wayne L., Nestler, Scott, Pelechrinis, Konstantinos: Books Review: The real moneyball - This is a great book for anyone who is interested in studying sports through a data-driven perspective. The book covers in detail topics around Baseball, Football, and Basketball, but also briefly discusses analytics components of soccer, hockey, volleyball, golf, and even e-sports. Finally, it concludes with a section on sports gambling. The book is perfect for sports lovers who also want to get introduced to data analytics and statistics. The sports problems presented cover linear algebra, network analysis, Bayesian statistics, regression analysis, Monte Carlo simulations, some basic probability theory, and many more. There is even a whole section devoted to methods, which target readers who want to delve deeper. I did not read the first edition of the book, but the authors explain that this version includes 17 new chapters. Overall a perfect and fun introductory book to sports analytics! Review: Analytical Gambling - I already had some ideas on the subject. This book confirmed many of my hunches. However, luck has as much say as anything else in the end.

Analytical Gambling
I already had some ideas on the subject. This book confirmed many of my hunches. However, luck has as much say as anything else in the end.

Really Great information. Math nerds would love it
It's detailed but easy enough to understand for anyone

It's John Kelly's criterion, not Edward Kelley's criterion
I just received a copy of the second edition. Given the late Bell Labs physicist John L. Kelly Jr.'s deserved prominence among gamblers and investors, it's surprising that he's identified in Chapter 49 as "Edward Kelley." Otherwise, this looks good.

Game changer!
This book changed the way I view baseball and has given me dramatically positive results in my wagering skills. I feel a lot more confident. I can see things in areas I never even bothered to lack before. This book is hands down a must buy if you want to turn bad gambling habit into a good statistical form of income.

Entertaining, but donโt bet on it (w/o verifying)
The book does cover many many topics that quantitative sports fan types will find interesting. However, the very first topic I read, runs testing, contains multiple errors a careful review would have caught. I am finding a more casual read to be highly enjoyable. But for topics I wish to fully understand, Iโll approach with a bit of skepticism.
