This simple, profound, Caldecott Honor story is now available as a Classic Board Book. All the world is here. It is there. It is everywhere. All the world is right where you are. Now. Following a circle of family and friends through the course of a day from morning until night, this book affirms the importance of all things great and small in our world, from the tiniest shell on the beach, to the warmth of family connections, to the widest sunset sky. Now available as a Classic Board Book, this Caldecott Honor picture book written by Liz Garton Scanlon and illustrated by Marla Frazee is perfect for the youngest of readers. Review: Poetic writing style, very calming to read before naptime/bedtime - This book surprised me and I now understand why so many people rave about the writing. Every section of the book rhymes and flows like you’re reading a poem and the sketch-like images are perfect accompaniment to the words. It shows the world as an exciting, exhilarating place to explore while also showing how the world can be a gloomy or quiet at times. When read in soft, breathy tones, it instantly calms my son down and he pays attention to the book. This started as early as 3 months and continues at 6 months of age. The last section doesn’t quite flow as perfectly as the first half of the book (the reference to love and peace feels oddly out of place, unoriginal when you compare with the rest of the book because it is very cliché/obvious to show up in a children’s book), but nevertheless only a few adults might be bothered by it. Review: Beautiful, powerful, sentimental - This is an amazing bit of poetry and illustration for young children, ages 2+. It works well as a board book. There is not much of a story here, but there is a logical progression. It appeals on the level of the individual page as well as the movement through the book. Children as young as 3 years old can probably memorize the entire book but it's still interesting and readable for adults. I believe it harkens to an earlier time, a simpler time, and focuses on some of the best things in life. I have high standards for my children's toys and books. This book surpasses my expectations. I would recommend it as a gift for friends or family. Also good for teaching or classroom use. If you purchase it for your own children, expect to read it daily, but it's not at all tedious. It's a pleasure for me to read every time.

My favorite book to read my toddler
This is such a beautifully illustrated book with a lovely message. We read it to my son every night starting at about 7 months, trying to establish a familiar bedtime routine. Now two, he still loves the cadence of the rhymes and likes to finish the last words of the stanzas; he’s old enough to notice and he carefully look at the details on each page and point out the tractor, the dogs, the bees, the kids, and “Poppy” (the older man in the hat who reminds him of his grandfather). The illustrations complement the story of interconnectedness, and it’s brought me to tears a few times (2020 is a hard place to be in, and this book is gentle and reassuring). I left our copy at my mom’s house, told her to keep it for when grandkids come, and ordered us a fresh copy. We’ve given copies of the board book to many friends’ kids as baby shower and first birthday presents. Recently I realized the illustrator also did “It Takes a Village.” Definitely a book for your little one’s collection and a great bedtime read!

Beautiful book
My kids love this book and I honestly do too. It has a beautiful poem in it and equally beautiful illustrations that my kids love to look at. It makes for a great book to read before bed with how calming the poem reads. I highly recommend this book!

Beautiful drawings
My 13month old baby LOVES this book! We speak Spanish and this book is in english but she constantly asks for it! It is so beautiful that we leave the book in our living room table instead of in her room :) perfect book for the living room area! The pictures are beautiful.

Great book, image quality not as great
This is a sweet and wonderful book with a great message. Exactly what I wanted to get for my future kids. The image quality was not as nice as I was expecting, though, and I was disappointed by that. I bought 2 and gave 1 as a gift to a couple I know with a new baby.

Thoughtful Wording & Beautiful Artwork
I love this book. Originally found it in a neighborhood book stand and my daughter loved it so hard it fell apart. I bought two new on Amazon, one for me and another for my god son. The storyline isn’t out of this world or anything but it is thoughtful and sweet. The imagery is so wonderful that it kind of takes me away as I’m reading it to her. I’ve been wanting to get some of the images and have them framed for her bedroom. There is also a lot of consistency and detail where they will carry over specifics throughout each page. Doesn’t matter for a kiddo but for me it speaks to the attention to quality.

interesting
Beautiful book, pictures, text, and idea. Could it be that this book helps our little ones make "sense" of the world and put it all together? at least that's what it seems with my 2-year-old... To be continued...

Just lovely!
I love the pictures, the rhythm of the text, and the message, and my son loves this book too even if he's not old enough to understand more than a few words. It's one of his favorites. Wonderful book! Cannot recommend it warmly enough!
