Beats down American Crew and most other things on Amazon.
If you're looking for a premium hair clay that doubles as a leave-in hair moisturizer and smells natural and fresh, then look no further. Here's what's good: 1. Smells significantly better than the half-dozen other matte clays I've tried at a similar price-point. It smells naturally earthy and herbaceous, with hints of honey and rosemary. Nothing artificial or cloying. 2. It doubles up as a great scalp and hair moisturizer. I live in dry, cold Colorado, and this stuff really locks in moisture to provide your hair those natural oils and healthy sheen, rather than the dried-out look other clays often do. 3. It goes in clean and leaves none of that visibly chalky or sticky residue in your hair. It's got a flexible medium hold. It won't hold up a mohawk, but it'll be enough for short to medium hair lengths. It would probably suffice for a slicked-back style too, as long as you're ok with a more relaxed hold rather than gluing your hair to your head. Don't be afraid to go a little generous if necessary. 4. Did I say it smells fantastic? Just make sure you leave the container at room temperature or higher if you want to actually use it. If you leave it in your car on a cold night, it hardens into a rock.

Best hair product to date
Very happy with this product. I’ve been looking for some thing that wasn’t toxic for some time now and wasn’t really able to find one that works. This one far exceeded my expectations. It holds better and for longer than the other products I’ve tried. I also feel it makes my hair look a lot nicer. I feel really good that the ingredient list is clean. Despite other products claiming to be clean, when you read the ingredients, you can see if that’s just a lie, that’s not the case with this one. Ingredients, and everything about this. I’ll never switch to another brand again.

Good and Organic
Shines just enough for my liking (semimatte), applies easily, smells neutral, though perhaps earthy, holds hair in place well, easy to restyle throughout the day. Washing out is a little harder, but not bad

It’s a good product with a matte finish to low shine.
After getting my grooming clay, I really liked how it smelled as well as the fact that all the ingredients were safe and I knew what they were. And the product itself is hard, but I don’t think that’s really a problem unless having it be soft is the most important thing for you. I’m fine with it being hard because it’s still easy to use, it’s just in a different state than what a similar product would be in. One thing though, is that if you have longer hair it will take more of the clay to get your hair in your desired state (which is more or less common sense, more hair = more product). As far as matte or glossy, I’d say it’s more matte with just a bit of shine, and the hold is right in the middle at a medium.

Inconsistent quality
This was our second time purchasing the Seattle Pomade Co. Grooming Clay. It worked really well for my son’s hair the first time; light hold, minimal smell and no greasiness. Unfortunately, the second batch seems to be bad. It has tiny little clumps in it that do not break down, even if rubbed between fingers. The result is that it leaves little whitish clumps in the hair. For the cost of the product, we would not expect this. It seems like a one off, since the first time we ordered was great but, considering the cost of the product, we would not attempt to order again.

Amazing product
Only natural product that I have found able to keep hair together all day. I work outside in the elements, sweating, etc. Only product to keep my hair together throughout the day.

Effective but not Matte Finish for Women
I really like this product, but it doesn’t really do what it says on the tin. It is natural ingredients with a nice smell and it’s locally made. It does have a medium hold as stated, but compared to other products I use (currently a hair cream) it is not a matte finish. My hair seems to look oily and unwashed with it. Another review for this product shows the oily look. I’m a woman so maybe compared to other men’s products it is matte finish, but for a lady’s use it appears oily to me.

Pretty disappointing in every aspect.
Was stoked to buy local and try out a new clay, but after using it a handful of times, I'm going back to another brand. Maybe I just got a bad batch, or maybe it just doesn't get along with my hair, but the performance of this product vs every other clay I've tried has been super disappointing. Why I use clay pomades: I've got relatively thick hair worn at a short/medium length. I generally use a clay to provide some texture to my hair, and give it a little bit of lift so it doesn't just flop down onto my forehead. I style in a semi-neat/semi-messy way, using just my hands and never a comb/brush. My experience using this product: 1. The product itself is super hard and difficult to get out of the tin. You need to apply a lot of pressure, use a fingernail, or let your finger rest of the product for a good 30 seconds before it softens enough to use. Once you get it out it's easy to work in your hands. 2. The smell is less than attractive. To me it smells like the back room of a verizon store in abandoned strip mall. I get the organic angle but it would be nice if there was at least a mildly pleasant aroma. Once it's on, it's relatively scentless. 3. The hold isn't great, nor is the longevity. There's a decent hold for a few hours, but then my hair looks like a hot mess. Hair feels super heavy and greasy in short time, and ends up looking that way too. Other clays I've used have left hair feeling lightweight, even days after using it. 4. The finish is not matte and it definitely leaves a greasy looking sheen.
