Pete the Cat: Too Cool for School (My First I Can Read)

My kids have a ton of pete the cat books so we got this as a Christmas gift to add to their collection! They love them all!

Another wonderful book by James Dean. My 6 year old absolutely loves Pete the Cat and this book is no exception. The story is cute and has a good message and as always the illustrations are fun and entertaining for little ones. These books are always a big help when learning to read as "cat" is easy to sound out and it is repeated so often in the book that they get it very quickly! I teach English as a Second Language at an international European school. Pete the Cat books are always a huge favorite - colorful, humorous illustrations, easy-to-understand text, and stories that can be followed easily without understanding every word - and this book continued the trend. This is the first 'reading' (as opposed to 'picture') book featuring Pete the Cat that I've used, and I was slightly apprehensive, but it did not disappoint! Pete puts on all the clothes that everyone else likes and ends up looking very silly (great illustrations!) Not until Pete decides to put on the things that HE likes best does he end up looking as cool as he would like to. This was great for teaching lessons about clothing and colors, as well as the word 'favorite.' Regardless of the language the children in your life speak, this book will be greatly enjoyed!

Sent this to my grandsons starting kindergarten and pre K.

Here comes Pete again with another story about being true to yourself. I love the messages that Pete shares in his stories and this book is no exception. This is a funny story about all the different clothes Pete's friends think he should wear. In an attempt to be "cool", Pete wears everything at once! I love the drawing style and the deadpan expression of Pete. What's silly is how my 3 year old is able to tell if Pete is happy or sad even though his expression doesn't change much. A great conversation starter about feelings, being true to yourself, and what it means to be cool.

My son (age 5) loves Pete The Cat books bc they also have them at his school library. Consistency in characters is helpful to my son who doesn't have a long attention span. He can relate more to books in series bc he remembers the characters. He also thinks Pete is quite funny and points him out if there is more than one cat on the page. I have a few of these books and am glad to own them bc my son is actually reading them with me now!

My son loves the Pete the Cat books. I hadn't seen the series prior to seeing them on Amazon, but my sons teacher evidently had read them to his Kindergarten class weekly. Overall I love that we can read these books together, some he can read more than I need to - I love the illustrations and the funny story lines. Pete the cat is a hit in our home for sure!
