Cooking Scrabble

It's got cards. The cards allow people to take your tiles, make you skip a turn, take you points, basically turn forethought and planning into chaos. There's no point in analysing the board, looking for good placement, because by the time your turn comes around (if you get a turn) you may not even have the same tiles. And you get the opportunity to argue about what you think a food word is. Is "deer" a food word? Not at my last game. It was decided by "the board" that one cannot eat "deer" only venison, so my points were denied. Some of the cards are confusing, are unpractical, don't make sense, or are mean and can create rancor within the group.If you don't really enjoy Scrabble or the strategy of the game, this might be a winner. Strategy of words becomes strategy against players, as you can focus on ruining a particular person if you want to go that route. Points are astronomical, as food words get more points, cards add additional points.I will say after the second game I was able to get a handle on how to strategize. The handle was using the cards better, as that's how you really get the big points. So yes, there is a strategy, it's just not the same strategy as playing regular Scrabble, thus for me, it's not Scrabble; it's different game.Oh, and this makes an already long game longer. I can't say I wouldn't ever play this version again. It's better if you're drinking wine and don't feel like putting your thinking cap on as much, but it also makes me yearn for a good ol' traditional Scabble match.

My husband is a "foodie" so this game is fun for him because he can score lots of bonus points with food words. It is a challenge to come up with food related word, but you are rewarded with bonus points. The recipe cards are a neat addition to the game. It can give people who are behind a chance to catch up, or people in the lead a chance to blow others out of the water. There are a couple of recipe cards that are more suited to 3 or 4 player games, but almost all the cards can be used with just 2 players as well. You don't HAVE to be a foodie to be good at this game or enjoy it, but it sure does help. We enjoyed it.

It's a bit overpriced since there isn't anything special about the board (it is a standard board with a cute cooking background). The cards make it fun and really shake up your play as you get bonus points for thinking up anything that relates to cooking. But Scrabble/cooking fans will have a not so serious but fun time.

I love the twist on the game my son and I enjoy it. I saw it in a book store and it was expensive and not worth the price so I whipped out my phone and ordered it using the amazon app much better price and easy

My parents were very excited when they opened this gift, more so than I had anticipated. The cards make a great addition to the game, adding more strategy to Scrabble. The only issue we had concerns the arbitrary nature of cooking words. Scrabble should release a Cooking Dictionary much like the other official Scrabble dictionaries, so that my father does not argue for "axe" as a cooking word, haha! Seriously though, overall, this game is a big hit!

I DON'T KNOW YET HOW MUCH FUN THIS IS BECAUSE I AM GIVING THIS TO MY DAUGHTER AND SON-IN-LAW NEXT WEEK AS A GIFT WHEN I VISIT. THEY LOVE TO COOK AND TRY NEW RECIPES ALL OF THE TIME. I THINK IT WILL BE AN ABSOLUTE LAUGHING BLAST TO PLAY WITH ALL OF THEIR COOKING KNOWLEDGE. IT SOUNDS LIKE MUCH MORE FUN THAN SCRABBLE BUT NOT FOR EVERYONE. I CAN HARDLY WAIT FOR ALL OF THE LAUGHS.

Fun game for those that love scrabble and cooking!! The recipes are fun..I gave 3 games to three of my FOODY friends that like to play games..It was a huge hit..I may order a few more of the other scrabble games for Christmas..

We have had a lot of fun with this new version and a lot of controversy over what makes a cooking term. But it is a very nice diversion from the original Scrabble game we play ALL the time. We like the added feature of picking cards, stealing points etc. Husbands had a more difficult scoring extra points with cooking terms, so us ladies did win a lot of extra points.
