Amazon Basics 8-Sheet Strip Cut Paper, CD, and Credit Card Shredder, 3.2 Gallons Wastebasket, Black

On occasion we paid a shredding service. By the second box, we were ahead on savings. Here is what we did:- + SET SHREDDER TOP UP ON A LARGER BIN. Of course the top mounts on the container included, but we set up the top across the top of a bin lined with a 55-gallon bag. Filled 8 of these in one evening.... each holding at least one packed file box of paper. The shredder has an extender handle that can be pulled out to accommodate a slightly larger container opening. + USE SHREDDER OIL. It's VERY easy to apply on this shredder. Just drag the oil bottle across the opening to pour some in periodically, and run the shredder backwards on eject mode for a few seconds, and it's ready for more. The oil is not that expensive and I think it kept it running smoothly for the duration. + NOTICE THE COOL DOWN PERIODS. Got so we could tell when it needed a break (and I did as well anyway, to sort the next pile). It will heat up if it's used continuously, and does need periodic short breaks to recover. + STAPLES WERE FINE. Pulled about 8 sheets off at a time from stapled packets. Two pages stapled together, for example, no issue whatsoever. + AVOIDED ADHESIVES. I didn't want to get adhesive on the blades so ripped off sections of pages that contained cello or packing tape. Really even put relatively few sticky notes through... The places to insert CDs and credit cards are marked clearly. Really, and ESPECIALLY for the price, I can't say enough about this it. AmazonBasic-ally all-around solid product. Recommended.

I have gone through 2 other cross shredders. They would jam, get hot then then finally just quit. I was skeptical about this shredder after the reviews but decided what the heck give it a whirl. The cross shredding was a huge issue with me. We no longer have a business so just personal stuff. Had this for almost a month and it's never once ceased up. It shreds the junk mail etc with ease. The only thing I have experienced is I have to after a few uses lift the top off and push down the shreds. I am happy about this little shredder. Great price, so far works great.

Works great. It is just noisy, but I haven't used any other shredders and so I don't know how they sound.

I just take a star away because the cuts are a 1/4 Width; I do not want to be paranoid, but do not throw the trash away at the same time, you never know if there would not be a very patient guy outside to reconstitute the whole document. That disturbs me a little bit, but I do not want to spend more than 30 dollars so I get what I paid for. Do not be mislead, but! This is a GREAT 8 SHEET (!) strip cut appliance for such a price. It does also destroy CDs and banking cards, and it is not only easy, but it takes not time. Delivery was really prompt, and the packaging had two pieces, the shredder, and the black and simple bin (capacity mentioned = between 3 and 5 gallons). I just had to put the shredder on the bin, nothing else: it took one second of my time. I plugged it and read the included user manual. It was not complicated to understand. I unplugged the appliance and took two drops of cooking olive oil on a piece of kitchen towel to slightly grease the blades: be careful to not cut yourself, but such a process will help you to keep it in good shape for a while. I tried just after to shred paper and it worked perfectly: I loved the fact there is a manual reverse to clear paper jams in case of it would be blocked (No more than 8 paper sheet at a time, remember!). I think it cut really well and in case of children would be tempted to touch this shredder I turn it off whenever I do not need it; moreover, it is good for the planet and your bill if you do the same for all your appliances. It is not the front side of this shredder that would disturb me, but the back where you will grease the blade. Keep in mind this is just put on the bin, not fixed...and consequently, depending who touches it and how, it can be a positive or negative point. The bank card destroyer works well, but I would still throw a part of the wastes in a trash bag and the other part in another. I still have not used the CD destroyer so I will have to complete this review if I ever have to get rid of a CD. However, it seems you just have to pull a kind of drawer, insert the CD, close the drawer and like for the sheet, as soon as the machine will "feel" its presence, it will destroy it. All in all, this a good value for money reinforced by the fact that it is an Amazon Choice.

The best thing I've bought.

My paper shredder died on me after 3 months and I needed a replacement that I wasn't going to be disappointed with. I was searching for one and ended up seeing this one. I've bought products from AmazonBasics before and never had any issues with them. Rather, I've always been surprised by their quality and performance. This shredder shreds more paper at one time than my previous one, which is a big positive for me. The shredder sits on top of the bucket so it's easy to remove it and clear the bucket. It also shreds CDs and credit cards very easily. It's also much safer than my other shredder since the paper feeder is slim that you're fingers won't get pulled in. I bought this 2 years ago and it's still working for me :).

My first use was to shred 35 years of documents in 4 hours and it worked great! Didn’t overheat once. Easy to use. Can shred 8 pages at a time. Works great for shredding credit cards too. I’ll use it to shred any personal papers, cards, and CDs to keep the identity thieves away.
