You can get it wet, just don't soak it in water. When cleaning, you need to focus on washing and rinsing the bristles. Use a comb to comb through and remove any excess hair and/or debris. Then wet the bristles and wash with shampoo. You also want to make sure you let the bristles dry completely, with the bristles facing down.
