3M Windshield Repair Kit, 08580

I have always used 3M car care products (headlights restore, scratch repair...) and have a great experience with them. I was a little skeptical with this one only because I have a specialty windshield with a fairly deep, double bullseyes (the rock hit, bounced, and hit again about a quarter inch away from where it first landed), spiderweb, over an inch crack when I only had my windshield replaced less than a year ago. To my surprise, it fixed almost perfect. I suspect this will be a two attempt fix. A few suggestions -- Patience is the virtue of any cosmetic car care. Make sure you have time to work on it and don't rush it. Follow instructions closely and watch the video before ordering and make sure you understand the steps because they make sense and make the process go a lot easier. Make sure you have a workspace set up so you don't spill the resin solution like I did... If your damage is like mine that is bigger or your windshield is coated, repeat the first three steps and leave the solution there longer so that it closes the crack really well before putting on the surface coat and the plastic sheet. Leave the plastic sheet overnight instead if it is not being cured under the sun. Highly recommended. best $11 I have ever spent!

I never leave reviews, but I didn't want anyone else wasting money on this. I've used many different products on my windshield chips throughout the years, but this was by far the most disappointing. With a name like 3M, I just knew this would work great, but could never get the resin to cure. And yes, I understand how direct sunlight and cloudy days work on this stuff. It kept wanting to cure in the tube. I bought two of these thinking that maybe I had a bad one. Nope. Just a bad product. Save your time and money on this one.

I've used this for multiple cracks on multiple cars. I just purchased my third 3M kit. I would rather buy just refill bottles of resin since the applicators I have still function fine, but cannot find the 3M glass resin sold separately. The kit is still inexpensive and I will continue to buy this as needed. I want to stay with this kit which I know will work rather than go to an alternate repair method. I understand the negative reviews -- the kit isn't perfect and my repairs certainly are not. But the applicator and the resin are tools that I found useful for repairing my own windshields. Sometimes my repairs go better than expected. Sometimes they are messy and somewhat frustrating. But on the whole, this kit has allowed me to keep star hits from spreading and postponed the need to replace my windshields. Manage your expectations and make the kit work. It is the resin into the crack that repairs the glass, not the plastic applicator. Use your own larger screws for the suction cups instead of the ones in the kit. Get a diamond drill bit if you need one to make a larger hole in the windshield to accept the resin. So what if you can still see where the rock hit your window... as long as the cracks do not spread, there is plenty of other glass to look through. I am a three-time satisfied buyer.

I followed instructions and the crack still has a small divot. The plastic curing cover had cured glue on it, just not sure my windshield as the glue.

I buy this repair kit exclusively. It is easy to use and works great. Much better quality than other brands. I take the unit apart at the plunger and clean it out after use and it can be reused multiple times. Very good value compared to other single use brands. For small chips I just dab the liquid on and use a tissue to keep it from running. For larger chips and stars, I use the suction plunger set up.

TL;DR: In my experience this kit did very little to improve a small chip in my windshield, and I came away uncertain what benefit it actually provided. I bought this 3M windshield repair kit to address a small rock chip before it spread. I followed the instructions carefully, taking my time with each step. The resin did flow into the chip and I cured it in direct sunlight as directed. After removing the applicator and film, however, the visual appearance of the damage looked almost unchanged. The chip was still clearly visible from the driver seat, and from outside the car it looked very similar to before. From what I understand, these kits are meant to stabilize the glass and reduce the risk of cracks spreading rather than completely erase the blemish. Even with that in mind, I expected at least some visible improvement, such as a clearer fill or a reduction in the white star pattern around the impact. In my case I did not see that. To be fair, this is only an opinion, not objective truth, and results may depend on the exact shape and location of the damage as well as user technique. The materials in the kit seemed adequate and the instructions were reasonably detailed, but the outcome did not justify the time and effort for me. I eventually decided that if I get another noticeable chip, I will either visit a professional repair service or research a different product. Followed the instructions, simple and straightforward. Didn't have any issues. Took about 10 minutes and I was taking my time. Add another 30 minutes to park the car in the sun to let the resin UV cure. They give you plenty of resin, it only takes a little.

I tried using this on a minor crack and while it did fill in the interior of the crack, it did not successfully seal at the surface. When taking the film off after nearly an hour of baking in the sun, the product was still liquid. Now I can still feel the crack at the surface and didn't completely resolve the issue. I didn't get the proper results as described in the item details.

No effect. Total waste. Don't buy. I tried to do it with the help of a professional. Still no effect

Product was not effective though it was used properly as per instruction. Still my car wins shield is having crack

A purchase this for my boyfriend to fix a crack in our windshield. And it worked great. With definitely purchase again..
