I read this book before I read The Other Side of Midnight, and I'm glad I read it in this order, because Noelle Paige was larger than life, a paragon of beauty, power, brains and charisma. It was wonderful to read how formidable she was, and how admired, and how she brought a powerful ruthless man to her knees. If I had read The Other Side of Midnight first, I wouldn't have respected her as much, because of her infatuation of Larry Douglas. I like Catherine Alexander. I'm not impressed with her. Catherine Alexander wakes, and she is comforted by nuns. She has amnesia. Constantin “Costa” Demiris knows the truth about her, and he takes her in. He plots against her, and she is clueless. For me, she was the least important character of the book. The high points of the book are antagonist, Costa Demiris, and how he became so powerful and rich, and also his black and white sense of justice. His failing marriage to the wealthy, dignified Melina was also fascinating to read. His rivalry with Milena's brother, Spyros Lambrou was also a highlight. Even Tony Rizzoli's demise was written with gusto. But I liked best Costa Demiris’s reminiscing of Noelle Paige – and how his revenge with. Though Noelle Paige was dead, she dominated every page.
