Great set that blends well and doesn’t break.
Nice compact tin the pencils come in. Fits my sketchbook cover perfectly without getting lead on leather case. Pencils are high quality one would expect from Stardtler. I particularly like the 4B pencil. I’d love even more if there eat a small sharpener and small eraser so all fit in the compact tin. Happy with my purchase and you would be too. The pencils sketch and glide well, blend nicely, easy to use, and erase well with a Stardtler eraser. My favorite eraser of all. You can’t go wrong with this set and at a good price.

customer recommended
i was going to buy a cheaper graphite pencil set. i really didn't have a clue. i've done all of my drawing w #2 writing pencils. a customer who gave an exceptional review, pointed out the shortcomings of the cheaper product. he actually presented a mini-lesson on what the numbers and letters of the pencils meant. what constitutes a good pencil, sharpener, etc. what i, and many other customers appreciated, was that he also gave his suggestions for a good pencil. he recommended staedtler mars lumograph. he was so thorough that i felt comfortable and bought the set. he suggested buying individual pencils, but i'd have to drive several miles to do that. i paid a few extra dollars to have this basic set delivered to my home. because i have this starter kit, i can, when i'm at the arts store, pick up a few of, the ones i most use. i feel that i've made a sound purchase w this kit that'll hold me over. they're professional grade, sharpen easily w/o breaking the lead, with a good metal sharpener. they erase w/o leaving dark impressions. with a good metal sharpener, they have nice points. the lead doesn't break fr a bit of pressure. also, important to we, who're losing high visual definition, is that the pencil grade is in large print, at the top of the pencil, contrasted boldly, white on black. the metal pencil holder means transportability. each pencil sits snuggly in it's own well. no hunting for the right pencil, no digging at the bottom of a tote and finding the point broken. if there is an art store near you, you can save by getting them individually. i prefer having them in the metal case. either way this is a good pencil kit.

Who Knew Pencils Can Be So Cool...
I found a pencil marked HB. Well, I needed to understand why this pencil wasn't a regular old #2. Education for self improvement-being nosey, is a journey. I purchased these pencils in the variety pack and, so far, have found an application for each number in the tin !!!! The 8B is my favorite for marking on plant sticks that doesn't fade or wash away! I know, that's not an 'artsy' thing, but I'm on the path now...

A Great Product
I got this as a gift for my grandson who is a burgeoning artist. This is exactly what I was hoping for—they come in a classy tin case and that is part of the appeal of the product. Came in great shape and ready to wrap. As a graphic artist myself, this is the same brand I used for decades.

Just got them and surprisingly LOVE them and the 8B is the darkest of any brand if you are looking for a really dark black. I actually bought a dozen "Conte Extra Fine Drawing Pencil" in 2B (French) because they are so black, but you cannot use them until the very end of your drawing as they are waxy and do not lift well, so it is not a good idea to use them for layering until the very end when you are adding the finishing touches to your piece. Also, you need a very light tough otherwise the lead breaks off and can create quite a mess. And to tell you the truth, I did not think that I would like these, have no idea why, but bought them as I was told that the 8B was really dark black, which is a hard value to achieve. So, I would say that statement is correct, and this brand has the darkest 8B of any brand and I have used Prismacolor, Derwent, Faber-Castell 9000, Cretacolor. My favourite being Derwent, as it also has water soluble and coloured graphite which is fabulous. Actually I am not that impresses with Faber-Castell 9000 as they are scratchy and I think damage the paper, and off course make it harder to lift without leaving impressions. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!
