Worked for my tape deck pinch rollers
Yes, it's very expensive. But I took a chance and bought it to refurbish the pinch rollers on my 50-year-old Sony TC-788-4 reel-to-reel tape deck. They were glazed, shiny and hard, and would not move the tape correctly. I did two rounds of applying the Renue according to the instructions, with a good cleaning with alcohol after each round of Renue. I got a LOT of black residue off, so I knew the Renue has opened up the rubber surface. Afterwards I did a very light scuffing with fine grit sandpaper. The capstans are now a nice matt color, and they are working nicely. Be sure to use this stuff outdoors or with an exhaust fan; it's very volatile. I wore nitrile gloves. I should have used an eye covering because my eyes watered for a day after using it. After closing the jar, I put it in a thick sealed plastic bag to help contain the fumes. Just be careful, but the stuff really works.

A very good rejuvenator for most all rubber drives in tape player/recorders
Shiny rubber tape idler? This will fix it nicely, unless of course your wheel is worn out. I used on my Akai 4 channel reel to reel and brought it back to life. The cleaner will re-rubberize (?) all the worn/slick/shiny wheels that drive your tapes.

Excellent product but be careful with its use
I stored it in a cup holder in the console of my car actually just left it there for a few days and didn't notice that the top wasn't on tight some of it leaked out of the bottle and damaged the plastic around the cup holder. A great product just make sure you don't let any of it leak out on anything or let it get any place you don't want to use it.

Good Stuff
I purchased a couple of roll paper note pad things that were probably manufactured back in the mid 1970's. They have a small rubber wheel that feeds calculator roll paper onto a writing plate. The rubber wheel has dry and would not grip the paper. Used this 408C Rubber Renue product on the wheels and they are actually almost like new. Grip the paper just fine. All I did was paint the product on the wheels with a small artist type paint brush. Let it set for a little while and wiped off any excess. I believe I applied 2-3 coats. Great stuff and glad I found it. Would definitely purchase this product again.

Restored my old dried out platen from 70's typewriter
I was skeptical at first when I read the reviews of this product. But it vastly improved the platen on my 60's typewriter, the Hermes Baby's platen into a supple and dull looking platen like it was just replaced. Mind you, I only applied 1 coat for now. It seems to get absorbed by the platen almost instantly when it is applied. So multiple coats should penetrate deep into the platen to make it softer so each key type should become more pronounced. Awesome product, recommened for those that have vitage typewriter that has dried out platens that are rock hard. Be sure to apply it in well ventilated area. Smell is similar to Ben-Gay topical cream. CAUTION: Be sure not to get any of the stuff on plastic or it will start to disintegrate it. Best to take the platen out of the assembly or anything that's not rubber.

Not the Original Rubber Renue
this product is apparently not the one written about in the current (december 2025) description - it contains no chemicals - the current formulation is wintergreen and isopropyl alcohol, neither of which are particularly good for rubber, as far as i know. it is possible that 408A is the original product and 408C is the less toxic alternative. unclear why you would need to charge $28 for those two ingredients, though. amazon provided a refund, but beware that these chemicals generally come with a "no return" policy.

Great Product
This works well on equipment with rubber wheels that are worn and replacement wheels hard to find and/or replace. The smell maybe strong to some but it dissipates pretty fast.

Great for rejuvenating tape deck pinch rollers. idlers and printer take up rollers
Definitely brings back grip to pinch rollers, idlers and paper rollers. I have several cassette recorders with no rewind and/or poor take-up reel performance. Rubber Renue takes away the shiny, hard surface and leaves a grippy, compliant rubber face that makes the deck work as new. The other alternatives are replace the rubber parts (super expensive) or junk the machines. However, the product smells very minty and even in a closed bottle, the minty smell seeps out. So I keep it upright, in an air-tight box. This is my second try at buying Rubber Renue, the first attempt was left outside on my doorstep on a 35°C day, upside down and naturally, following the laws of thermodynamics, the product leaked out, I estimate around 1/3 of it leaked out. Returning it was a laugh, the minty stink stunk out the post office and they were concerned when I dropped off the package wearing gloves, the MSDS would definitely preclude sending this product, leaking, through the post (or should I say Evri)

Feels and looks like it actually works on typewriters. Very happy.
Used it a couple of hours ago on a 1948 Sterling Continental typewriter's rock hard, and pitted with "full stops", platen. At the time of application, it cleaned and left a stickier platen to the touch than my tried and trusted Platenclene spray. Very happy. Two hours later, the shine has gone as has a lot of the sticky feel but the platen looks and feels better for it. Still happy. I'll give each of my machines a little go with some as and when they come into rotation. Word of warning, the chemical smell is VERY strong. (Like TCP on acid). Use sparingly and in a ventilated room to avoid "issues".

Hidden Jewel
I was introduced to this product when I bought my second car by a body shop employee. It does what is is supposed to do. Just know this stuff is caustic in one form or another and it "does what it is supposed to do", so be responsible with its use and disposal. Great Product, saved the restoration of an old fishing vessel, brought the rubber flange back to life, very happy since the ports were not replaceable. Rejuvenates All rubber parts to an almost new condition it needs reapplying for really old rubber it will work, "Follow the instructions and wear protection.
