FRESH SPEED 6-Inch External Extractor Wall Vent Cushioned Non Return Flap

This was impressive right out of the box - the packing itself I would add was really tough box offering max protection Once installed, the clean lines and Stainless finish looks very classy on the exterior wall. I understand why some might have been frustrated with the rubber gasket, which is slightly smaller than the frame: however I personally think this was a positive thing. TIP: a little bit of SuperGlue on the corners was enough to secure it firmly in place. Then you can easily snug it up tight against the wall for a tight seal. The Flapper on mine fit well and moved freely; and when held off-axis slightly you could see it seal nicely - the gasket is a bonus here, to dampen any banging! When mounted however it did hang ever so slightly open - this is more a factor of the wall's true verticality though. Perhaps a suggestion for the manufacturer is to recognize that many will have this issue - if it was designed with a built-in internal angle of only a few degrees it would solve this without any negative impact on the functionality. The only other thing I found was the mounting screws were too short for me - Mine had to go through the Dryvit Stucco into the plywood sheathing, so with the thickness of the vent itself (which is nearly an inch) I needed 2-1/2" screws. It would be a bonus if the manufacturer could supply a few different lengths to accommodate different wall thicknesses. Very pleased though, an incredible value I would say.

Much better quality than expected. I purchased this for a kitchen range hood exhaust. Very well made flap closes nicely with gravity and seals great. Easy install with rubber gaskey to seal on siding or stucco.

Had to vent 6" & 4" exhaust side by side for new home. These has thick collars with built in tabs to hold 6" extension & 4" reducer piece, rubber seals tricky but with stainless screws final install very nice look. Love the quality stainless look and finish of these vents. I'm a builder and would use these again for high end residential or commercial jobs!

I needed a wall vent for my over-the-range extractor, and I was awfully disappointed by both the selection and pricing at my local big box retailers. I’m glad I opted for this one, as it’s far nicer in both build quality and appearance than anything on the shelves. The stainless steel looks and feels great, and the flap operates silently and effectively. It’s made to last, strong, sturdy, and stable. I have a few nits to pick, but I’d certainly buy this again despite these complaints. First, the gasket - as others report, it’s a PIA to get on. As I have very rough stucco siding, I opted to use sealant in concert with the gasket. This made a huge mess when the gasket decided to slip off mid-install. Words were said. Bad words. Words my neighbors shouldn’t have to hear enunciated so clearly and powerfully. A better gasket might alleviate this - or better yet, a flange (or optional flanged model). I ended up fixing the gasket to the vent with some sealant, waiting a day for it to cure, then proceeding with the install - I recommend this method if you’re planning to use sealant. The screws were short for my application as well. I don’t mind, as stucco isn’t a great substrate anyway. I picked up some stainless machine screws, washers, and nuts locally, and essentially bolted it in place instead. It feels very secure this way. Finally, this fits INSIDE a 6” vent pipe. I’m not sure how big of a deal that is, but ideally, you’d have each piece fitting inside the next in the direction of flow. That way, air doesn’t escape the intended path to the area around the tubing. I suppose with the gasket, there’s probably not much place for air to go, but I’d still much prefer this fit OVER the 6” vent in accordance with the rest of the system. All told, I’m still very impressed with the build and performance of this little vent cap. It’s better, cheaper, and much nicer looking than anything else I could find.

Great product, comes with rubber gasket to seal to the wall. The gasket is a tiny bit small and has to stretch a little to fit correctly.

This is a nice unit - better and more sturdy than most. It was installed as part of a range vent hood system. The flapper has a good seal, but be aware that it hangs by gravity alone. The flapper won't fully close if the vent isn't installed perfectly vertical.

Generally speaking, this is a well made vent hood. It vents our gas range so it's important that it works right. That said, we noticed months after installing that the flap was blowing open on cold, breezy days and it was creating quite a draft in the kitchen. Since it opens so easily, suspect it might also invite unwanted visitors to come on in. If you have the same problem and want a simple solution, I have a few ideas to suggest, but please verify every step. To solve the problem temporarily, just as a stop gap to block cold air from rushing in through your range, cut a section of cardboard product packaging to cover the vent grill on the range itself. That keeps the cold air out but necessitates removal every time you use the stove top, so it's effective but not optimal. DON'T FORGET IT AND TURN ON A BURNER OR THE VENT FAN. To learn of a better, more permanent solution that may work for you, consider trying the following: Buy a 6 pack of disc magnets from your preferred hardware store. The one I bought is pictured and cost less than $5. Doesn't say on packaging but they are LIGHT ATTRACTION. You can test in store by seeing how strongly they attract other magnets on the display. Here's the caveat: DON'T USE STRONG ATTRACTION MAGNETS as your fan may not be strong enough to force the flap open AND they may be hard to remove. I found that stacking 4 of them on the outside of the flap and 1 on the rim inside as shown in pix worked best for me. They won't attach to the metal flap since it's stainless steel, but they will stay in place when lined up as shown because the magnetic field "penetrates" the metal, effectively binding the ones on the outside to the one on the inside.. ... .as long as you have the polarity right. Next, remove the clips from a small binder clip and attach it to the inside lip of the vent hood as shown. Line it up so the magnet on the inside of the flap makes contact with the binder clip. Turn the range vent fan on low and verify that it blows all the way open when the fan is on. In our case, it took a moment for the fan on low to force the flap open, which means the magnet offers a bit of resistance. ...but not too much. . ..and it opened completely. Turn the fan off and watch to confirm that the magnets "engage" with the binder clip again as the flap closes. It should give a very satisfying click when the magnet re-engages with the binder clip. The strength of the magnetic attraction is increased by the number of magnets you stack on the outside. I settled on 4 by trial. You want just enough, not too much. In addition to increasing the strength of the magnetic attraction, more magnets also increases the weight, which helps keep the flap closed when the fan isn't on. .. but again, be careful not to add so much weight that the flap won't blow open on your fan's lowest setting. Use only 1 magnet on the inside or you risk the flap not closing completely because the thickness of the magnet creates separation from the binder clip. If you try this, please confirm your vent flap opens and shuts as described and check it periodically. Results may vary and I assume no responsibility or liability if yours doesn't work the same.

This is solidly built and worked as stated. The non-return air flap actually works, opens and closes. it is ascetically acceptable and had no dents, scratches or blemishes.
