Product Description TCM Greatest Classic Films:Romantic Drama (4FE/DVD)REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE In one of the most influential performances in movie history, James Dean plays the new kid in town whose loneliness, frustration and anger mirrored those of postwar teens and still reverberate today. Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo were Academy Award nominees for their achingly true performances. EAST OF EDEN A wayward Salinas Valley youth (James Dean) vies for the affection of his hardened father (Raymond Massey) with his favored brother (Richard Davalos). Julie Harris and 1955 Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner Jo Van Fleet co-star in this adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel. CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF Tennessee Williams Pulitzer Prize play thunders across the screen in a powerful film adaptation starring Elizabeth Taylor as frustrated Southern belle wife Maggie the Cat and Paul Newman as her disillusioned ex-athlete husband. A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE: THE ORIGINAL DIRECTORS VERSION Four Academy Awards including three for acting! Elia Kazan directs the landmark movie of Tennessee Williams Pulitzer Prize play about the clash between brutish Stanley Kowlaski (Marlon Brando) and his dreamy sister-in-law Blanche Dubois (Vivien Leigh).]]> desertcart.com Turner Classic Movies' Greatest Classic Films Collection: Romantic Dramas collects four movies on two double-sided discs, with top picture quality and the bonus features that appeared on disc 1 when two of those films were released on two-disc sets, or the features that appeared on the single discs of the other two. The first disc pairs two of James Dean's three major films, Rebel Without a Cause and East of Eden (both 1955), with commentary tracks by author Douglas L. Rathlieb and historian-filmmaker Richard Schickel, respectively. The second disc offers two Tennessee Williams adaptations: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958), starring Elizabeth Taylor as Maggie the Cat and Paul Newman, and A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh. Bonus features include commentary tracks by author Donald Spoto and by Karl Malden and others, the featurette "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Playing Cat and Mouse," and movie trailers. --David Horiuchi Review: Wonderful old classics - Love all of these old classics. My movie came saying on the back that it was two discs with two movies on each but it really had four discs, one for each movie. Iโm fine with that. Review: Great Price! Great Classics! - Eleven dollars is not a bad price for this amazing classics. Now I don't buy movies on DVDs unless I HAVE to own them for my sake. So I recently bought this. Now I have a Streetcar Named Desire on Blu-ray and I know that the James Dean Ultimate collection and Blu-ray books are coming out but I just needed it now. I recommend this movie pack unless you want to wait for the release of the James Dean movies on Blu-ray which will be Nov 5. Or you could just buy both which is what I will do. This price is ridiculous and this movies are timeless so again I recommend. So what you get is this: You get a cardboard sleeve and the box with it's artwork in its plastic sleeve and four discs. Yes you get FOUR DICS!!! Not like it's described in the back of the box. You get a disc for every movie. The discs are the original released for each single movie. And you get them all stacked on top of each other in supported by this fairly deep disc holder. I think it's awesome so BUY IT!

Exellent Value!
My mother and I watched all four movies together, and shared a lot of tears and a lot of laughter! It was wonderful watching "true movie stars" that were, overall, protected by their agents from the public eye (who really cares what they ate for breakfast, etc.?). Each star, in every movie, deserved their idolization during their time in their limelights! My mother said, "Ah, when movie stars were movie stars!" We are both hoping for ONE DVD release that includes the following three of her favourites: "Butterfield 8", "The Taming of the Shrew", and "Cleopatra". If you cannot share these movies with one of your senior parents, I would still highly recommend this TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection.

Ah, what a collection!
Like loads of people I've fallen in love with James Dean, and getting just East of Eden (my favourite film) and Rebel Without A Cause in one set for so cheap would be great... but then you also have Streetcar, which is terrific, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which is quite good as well and certainly worth watching if you like the rest! A really great collection -- though I've not the faintest idea why it's called 'Romantic Dramas'. I'd call it the 'Moody Young Men' Collection myself. :P

Mixed opinion.
I really liked "Cat on a Hot tin Roof" and thought the acting was amazing. "Rebel Without a Cause" was okay. I really did not care for "A Streetcar Named Desire" at all. I like that they have been made available for the younger generation of old movie enthusiasts though. I hope I like "East of Eden" as well as I liked "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."

Great gift for mom
Mom was looking for one of these films. She was tickled to receive this collection! The CDs work fine and the stories are classics.

I never managed to see these films at their original release time ( I am old enough! ) but watching them now I found them very enjoyable and revealing. They are all about dysfunctional relationships either in families or social situations. All the actors and actresses do a good job and are very convincing. I can see why these films were a revelation and complete contrast to the soapy drivel that mostly preceded them. They make you think about the human condition and how society treats disadvantaged people of one kind and another.

I really enjoyed all the movies. For me they worked well in my blu-ray machine. Sometimes hard to read the titles on the disk as they were in very small print. There aren't stars today like Paul Newman, Marlon Brando and James Dean. An excellent collection.

Rebel without a cause on disc doesn't work, only just tried to watch it, conned again

"Rebel Without A Cause" is not quite in the category of eternal significance of the other three movies in this selection, which says a great deal, given that it is a great movie in it's own right.
