What is the difference between lego star wars death star (75159) & lego star wars death star (10188)?

The 10188 Stop has a shell around it therefore the 75159 does not. Also the Lego Star wars death Star set 10188 has as an original death Star droid therefore the 75159 has an updated one.

Is there a jail cell in the prison area or is it just a doorway

According to my grandson...there is a sticker that comes with Death Star. It is supposed to be placed on a Lego piece and is made to look like a jail cell. In the movie, there is a real jail cell. Hope this helps.

What is the difference between this and the discontinued model 10188? If you had a choice between the two models, which would you choose and why?

i would choose the 75159 version because it is updated to include more than 4000 pieces and the mini figures are updated from 10188 version also the luke sky walker mini figures are different so are r2 d2, c3po and various other misc.
