How do you turn it off when not in use?

You dont turn it off. Its little to no power when not in use.

Newbie here, be gentle. i'll be using passive bowers & wilkins speakers with a parasound power amp. how do you adjust volume output with this?

Thanks for your question. A preamp is necessary to select inputs and provide a volume control. Source devices cannot be connected to a power amplifier. World Wide Stereo – since 1979 – and a proud authorized U-Turn Audio and Bowers & Wilkins dealer.
