Yes, these ice molds are BPA Free.

Purpose of small hole on mold top? The video doesn't show having to put water into small hole. Is that correct?

The small hole is for letting air and or water out if you fill past the line. I love mine. Just fill to the line and carefully lower the silicone lid in place. One thing, running warm tap water over frozen mold helps them release. Twist the top a little and it will come out of bottom.

Can this ice be used with soda?

Yes. It is just makes regular ice that is round shaped. I drink soda, sparkling water and bourbon with it. You just need a glass big enough to fit the round ice.
