perfect mix of humor, romance, and small town drama
I loved this book. Like, stayed. up. way. too. late. kind of loved it. This is the perfect mix of humor, romance, and small town drama that keeps you totally hooked. Naomi is such a lovable hot mess. She rolls into Knockemout thinking she’s helping her twin, and instead ends up broke, stranded, and suddenly a surprise mom to a sassy preteen. The chaos is real, but she handles it like a champ, for the most part. Know is a grump, but the kind of guy you can’t help falling for. He tries so hard to stay out of Naomi’s mess but ends up falling right into it...and her. Their chemistry is great, the banter is funny, and the emotional moments hit hard .. Plus, the town is full of quirky characters who make you want to move there and grab a beer with them… even if they settle arguments with their fists. This book has heart, heat, and a whole lot of personality. Definitely one of my favorite small town romances.

What’s love got to do with it?
Lucy Score hits a home run in “Things we never got over”. This is a romance rolled in with family dynamics from several different families and stages. Ms. Score weaves a tale of how childhood friend’s in a small town evolve through the years. How momentous experiences change both the people, their perceptions and interactions. Ms. Score takes the ideology of a child’s expectations of what they believe their parents want and how it molds and shapes a person. That belief may not even be accurate but is the child’s truth regardless. Throughout the story is one central theme…love. True love..from a parent to a child…from a child to a parent. Love grown and love lost. Love between siblings, love between husband and wife, love between lovers, love between genders, love between friends, forbidden love but love is the consistent thread. There are extremely steamy moments. This is not a read that shys away from the physical desires of both sexes, so be prepared. Also, please note there is a tug of war with emotions between Naomi(aka Daisy/Daze) and Knox as they learn about themselves and each other. There’s also a story running behind the scenes and sometimes congruent with the scenes. There is the relationship between Knox and his brother, Nash. Sometimes, Lucien, a childhood friend enters the dynamic trio. There’s the story of Knox and Nash’s childhood with their parents and grandparents. Liza, the grandmother, most present in the current story. There’s the history of Naomi and her sister, Tina. Tine has melded her daughter, Waylay into their relationship without warning to Naomi. There’s also Naomi and Tina’s parents whom had no knowledge of their granddaughter until everything went down. There’s Waylay, a child raised in a struggle and tough world whom is wise but holds on to her innocence and surprisingly positive outlook with hope in her heart. There’s also subtle side stories of Naomi’s childhood friend, Stef. Stef is a character everyone has in their life and loves. When he comes into town there is a little spark between he and Jeremiah. This gives the reader a little nugget of hope for a spinoff story. To sum it all up, there’s the relationship Knox and Nash have with the town of Knockemout. There are a myriad of town folks that add all kinds of magic to the possibilities of spin-off stories that either Lucy Score writes or you, as the reader writes in your own mind. This was a fun, light hearted read that was uplifting and kept your heart hoping for more. I definitely recommend and hope you lose yourself in the characters. There’s a lot to chose from.

Loved it
This is one of those books that feels entirely too long at the start, just right in the middle, and not long enough by the end. I loved it! While I think the story might be too slow-paced at the beginning and there's a LOT of focus on the small town feel, it's those quieter moments that make this sparkle in the back half. Our hero is a growly jerk who pushes our heroine away with his words while holding her close with his actions, and their tense interactions slowly simmer into something sweeter. I loved the subtlety and the transformation of the broken hero - and broken heroine - and the growth in intimacy was so very satisfying. These two opposites attract in the best of ways, and their chemistry was both smokin' hot and seriously swoony. Yes, it's really long. Probably too long. But this was such a satisfying read. The story follows Naomi (36), a runaway bride who finds herself in a small town she's unfamiliar with while her life falls apart. Naomi is now single, jobless, broke, homeless, and the 11-year-old niece she just found out about is suddenly in her care. It's a lot to handle all at once, even for someone who has spent most of her life cleaning up everyone else's messes. As Naomi struggles to make ends meet, there's one man who becomes her unlikely ally: Knox (43). Everything about the surly man's words and attitude tell Naomi to stay far away, but the devastatingly sexy jerk keeps coming to her rescue. He wants nothing to do with a needy, high maintenance woman - or her adorable niece - but Knox can't seem to help himself. And with every interaction, it becomes more difficult to stay away. I will openly admit that I found the length of this book to be really frustrating at times. It took awhile for me to settle into the laidback, small town feel, and there's a lot of time devoted to characters other than Naomi and Knox - which is not usually something that I'm looking for in a romance. After awhile, it became clear that all of those quieter moments were necessary, and those other characters will likely have stories of their own down the road. The pacing is also necessary to make Knox's transformation feel authentic. He's a major jerk in the first half, and a total teddy bear by the end. It's his compelling character that makes the slow build worth it; I really wanted to find out what made him tick. Naomi was also an interesting character, and I loved the contrasts between the two. This definitely had more of a slow burn feel than other books I've read by Score, even once things started to heat up. It's not page after page of steam, it's more page after page of character and world-building. I still think the page count could've been trimmed down a bit, but now we have this beautiful foundation for future books in the series - I'm already looking forward to the two other love stories that are hinted at in this.

When this book was published it was hyped in a way it made me skip it. A few days ago I came across this book again and picked it up. Oh am I glad that I did. What a great story and what a enjoyable style it is written in. I got hooked from page 1 and couldn't put it down until I finished Naomi and Knox story. It made me laugh, cry, fall apart en put me back together. I loved the fact that it isn't just a romcom, it is much more.

“You get to decide how you show up in this world. No one else gets to dictate to you who you are.” Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score has been sitting pretty on our kindles for a while and we finally picked it up and devoured it from the first page to the last. It was a very long book, but it was worth it! Lucy Score covered so many of our favourite things we love in our stories, and it was reminiscent of some of our favourite books by Authors we loved a decade ago. Utter perfection. The way in which Lucy Score wrote Knox and Naomi’s story is superb, it swept us up and carried us along as if we were in it, experiencing the highs, the lows, the heat, and the drama alongside all the wonderful characters. It’s truly a wonderful story of family, friendship, and love. ‘Was there someone out there who would find me to be enough? Not too much or too little, but the person they’d been waiting for their whole life.’ Knockemout has the best residents, we fell in love with all of them (bar Tina of course). Like Naomi muses a few times, what on earth is in the drinking water there, they sure don’t make the blokes like this round our way! Knox, Nash, and Lucien. What a trio! ‘I knew what attraction felt like. Knew what to do with it too. But not with a woman like this. One who didn’t know it was smart to be afraid of me.’ So, this book is about the enigmatic Knox and the incoming fleeing bride Naomi. They don’t meet under the best of circumstances, however, it’s pretty safe to say that the intense attraction is immediate. With a few grumpy slanging matches and tangible heated looks, we just knew this was going to turn into a fiery romance! Naomi is running from her life into an unknown situation after getting a surprising phone call from her estranged twin sister. It’s a good egg versus bad egg situation, stemming from childhood, but Naomi is a people pleaser, a problem solver, and has the heart of an angel. A bad situation changes everything for Naomi and deservedly for the better. Before that though, she must run through a gamut of obstacles, one being the saucy and stroppy Knox. Knox has his own issues and baggage but underneath that gruff Viking, exterior lies a soft heart with a few cracks in it waiting for the right woman to smooth them over. Knox is blown away by the kind, fierce, intelligent, beauty that is Naomi. The way in which their story unfolded was compelling, what a journey and what a wonderful array of characters that made this so much more than just a slow burn reluctant love story. “Maybe I like being the hero for once.” Smalltown romances are one of our favourites, add a grumpy hero whose actions speak louder than his words, intense chemistry with an adorable strong, and funny heroine as well as a bit of suspense and humour and well… we’re in reading heaven. We cannot convey how much we loved this book. It just ticked all the boxes for us. We’ve read Lucy Score before and fallen in love with her words, but this is our favourite by this Author, and we cannot wait for Nash and Lucien’s books now! “You’ve got a big heart, and sooner or later, once all this drama is over, someone is going to look at you and recognize it. And they’re going to want to take care of you for a change.”

Enjoyed it, but it will take some time to pick up another books from the series. MMC dilemmas were not enough for his behaviour to be justified
