Great movies.
I got these for a great deal on Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Slipcover not super mint, more very good. Rattle inside the case, random broken blue bit that didn’t damage the movies and I can’t find where it came from lol. Two fingerprints on the first movie lol; movie still played fine, must be an MI code. :P Other discs mint. I’ve seen all but 2 and Fallout. Mission Impossible: classic, still excellent, still memorable, maybe the picture quality isn’t as sharp as the more recent ones, but it is an older movie. CGI scenes may look better for the lower quality, however. Mission Impossible 2: too much. Just too much, and not better for it. I do love the free climb in the beginning. Around the break in scene, I started noticing vertical lines in the backgrounds. Thought it was my TV, wasn’t my TV. Maybe the movie was shot like this? It got really distracting. That, plus at least 4 WTF plot holes, and this is the also ran of the series. Still worth a watch for all that. Mission Impossible 3: your mission, should you choose to accept it, is the orange lambo and Maggie Q’s red dress. Mission achiev . . . *drool* wait, what was the mission? Miss you, PSH. MI Ghost Protocol: Dubai is still so fun, but I don’t really love the opening or ending. MI Rogue Nation: the high water mark of the series. Just everything is good about this. The motorcycle scene is how to do that scene right; I’m talking to you, MI2. I do feel like it’s missing a line of dialogue? When Ilsa says, “Shoes. Shoes, please.” and Ethan’s supposed to return to the earlier line of “I like them” before she repeats herself. Hmm. Doubtful I missed it, as I was waiting for it. Loved it the first time I saw the movie. Hmm. Hopefully they didn’t drop that for whatever reason (or my subconscious inserted it because it’s the right beat there, ha). But could also be lost in the blu ray audio compared with cinema and dvd audio. MI Fallout: a little disappointing after the hype. Not really worse than the previous 3, but I was expecting another high water mark, and RN still tops this movie for me. Maybe because it feels like an extension of RN, and not really its own movie? Still a lot to like, still far better than the second one. The bathroom fight is a highlight. Came with a bonus disc for Fallout, which you could hide under the digital card and replace with the next movie. Spoiler: I’m glad Ving is in all of them. It makes them work better, and gives more purpose to 2, which could be a throwaway movie without him.

Tom Cruise mega-box!
The Tom Cruise Mission: Impossible movie series is one that I find a little unusual. When films make a mass of sequels, usually its a case of that the more they release, the lower the over all quality is. A perfect example would be Star Wars with the imperfect prequels and the god awful sequels. A more recent example would Pirated of the Caribbean. A fun three part trilogy ruined by two pointless cash-ins. In the case of Mission: Impossible, it actually gets better as it goes along. I never saw that coming. The first movie is a straight up spy movie. It's got some great action set pieces but is more focused on breaking into vaults and less on impressive car chases. The second movie is a John Woo film. It's full of really silly looking bike chases, gun fights and has very little story. Being a Woo film, it shouldn't come as a surprise. But with Mission: Impossible 3, not only is the film more focused, better written and directed, but it easily has the series' best villain. It's a huge jump in quality from the second film and the series remains this consistently good. Ghost Protocol is very tight, very funny and has one of my favourite stunts from any film. Rogue Nation changes the format a little. It's a lot faster paced but is tightly packed and very well done. Fallout feels like a direct sequel to the previous film. It has the same vibe and style. It's well paced, it has great dialogue and some tremendous stunt work. The film series is a visual treat. Each stunt is as equally impressive as it is breathtaking. Seeing Tom Cruise hang out of a large air plane, mount a large skyscraper or sky dive out of a plane is intense. The actual stories are good with exception of the second. There's some great support actors like Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Henry Cavill, Billy Crudup and the sorely missed Philip Seymour Hoffman. Each one has great dialogue and play their own memorable parts in each film. The series looked good on the previous bluray prints but this is a huge jump in quality, especially for the first film. The original movie was by far the least impressive high definition transfer but now, it looks utterly fantastic. Each film has a lot of detail, heaps of depth and strong colours. Not one of them are smeared to remove any sort of film grain and look stunning on a large 5k television. The sound for the discs are also quite impressive. The 5.1 mixes are all very solid but the 7.1 in the most recent films really steal the show. It brings out all the punches, smashes and bangs that the series has to offer. I had a lot of fun binging these movies over the space of a week. The whole family enjoyed them in fact. The box-set does appear to be a bit pricey, but do remember. Not only do you get six movies in 4k, but each one also has a bluray disc with the movie for standard players and the extra features. I think that this is reasonable at full price. It would have been nicer had I bought it on discount but at £11 or so per movie, it's hard to complain. These films are some of the best action films to come out of Hollywood in recent times and are well worth adding to your collection.
