Pro Elite V2 1TB USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 Type-C Portable Solid State Drive (SSD) – (PSD0CS2160-1TB-RB)

So far so good. I have been looking for a replacement for the PNY Elite 1TB (was it 960 GB?), which is no longer available. This PNY Pro Elite V2 1TB external SSD was something to try. And it works. My system is an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X in an ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero motherboard. Pretty fast. I copied a single file of 375,809,638,400 bytes (350 GiB) from a fast hard disk to the SSD in 24 minutes, for a pace of 260 MB/s, or 249 MiB/s. Compared with the manufacturer's specs for this device, this is only about a fourth as fast as its theoretical top speed, mostly because there is another disk involved. But it is plenty fast enough for the nightly backup that the computer does while I sleep. Further, and contrary to some of the poor reviews I have read, the USB-C connection is not loose, and the device does not get even slightly hot. Cool as a cuke, even after receiving a 350 GiB file. It's still not as good as the earlier PNY Elite 1TB because it is larger. It's both wider and longer. I wish it weren't. It's not a lot larger, but enough to make it less comfortable to carry around in a pocket. The original, smaller PNY Elite is handier to carry. But I'm not downrating this device, because I knew that when I bought it. I'm also not buying any more though - both Vansuny and SSK make smaller/slimmer 1TB devices. PNY: I wish you would re-introduce the original PNY Elite 1TB device (V3?) at the price of the Elite V2, but perhaps with a USB-C connector. I'd buy a few of those!

Worked as advertised. PNY has made great memory and hides for a long time. We used their drives in our hosted server room.

This SSD is designed for USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. If your computer doesn't support that, Windows will throw up a menacing message warning that the drive will have limited functionality. I did a little poking around and learned that drive will work just fine if you don't have this Gen2X2. But you do have to put up with menacing message.

Great speeds, iops, everything works great so far. Price:oerformance ratio is unbeatable.

Great drive. Small, lightweight and waterproof

I bought the PNY Pro Elite V2 1TB USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 Type-C Portable SSD on June 23, 2025, and it completely died today — less than 4 months later. There was no warning at all. At first, Windows could still eject it, even though it didn’t show up in Disk Management or AOMEI Partition Assistant, which meant the drive itself had failed. I took a screenshot as proof. I’ve attached that screenshot showing Windows Disk Management. You’ll notice the PNY drive is completely missing — no partitions, no recognition. Yet the eject menu still appears, confirming that Windows detects something is connected, even though the drive is totally non-functional. This phantom behavior strongly suggests the failure happened at the controller level, not just a corrupted partition. Not long after that, it got worse — it stopped ejecting altogether, and now the system doesn’t respond at all when it’s plugged in. It’s completely dead. I expected better reliability from a known brand like PNY. I could understand this from a cheap, no-name drive, but not from a trusted company. I took great care of it, only plugging it in when needed, so this sudden failure makes no sense. To make things worse, I’m starting cancer treatment isolation on October 22, and this was the drive I was setting up with my games and virtual machine projects to use for studying and keeping my mind occupied during treatment. I had recently deleted everything to start fresh, and now the drive itself is gone — making this experience even harder. Unless PNY replaces it under warranty, I have to call this drive a major disappointment. It’s heartbreaking to lose both my plans and my trust in a product I thought would last. Please advise on replacement options under warranty. I need a reliable solution as I begin treatment.

Good product. No problems reformatting, encrypting or using. Sometimes gets a bit hot when in substantial use. All PNY products I've used have had no serious problems.

received a damaged pny pro elite v2. yes its fast but the usb-c port isnt a good or a smooth one. can cause in future some loose in the ssd board or internal cracks.

Tenía fichados varios SSD externos otras marcas, sobretodo los de una famosa marca que fabrica móviles, y tengo que decir que este está al nivel (incluso por encima) de algunos modelos top. Me dedico al audiovisual y si algo no tengo es espacio, en cada proyecto nuevo acumulo decenas de videos que pesan bastante. O lo que es lo mismo: necesitaba un SSD externo lo suficientemente rápido como para poder editar incluso desde él, sin tener que pasar los archivos al ordenador. En este puedo editar proyectos en Davinci y Premiere (1080p 4:2:2) desde el propio SSD, que no es poca cosa. Agiliza bastante el trabajo. Llevo tiempo con él y no me arrepiento de haberlo comprado.

Portable, easy to use, small. I use it to store photographs and old files rather than using computer storage.
