Will not buy Breville brand. Works for what it is supposed to on my very expensive Breville espresso maker!!!

It definitely reduces hardness from 25 to zero from our tap water (tested with a strip), which means it removes the scaling that is the most important factor for coffee water. Also, Clorine smell and NYC water smell is fully gone... Coffee taste good. Although these are branded for Breville, it also fit perfectly our Kitchen Aid with Burr Grinder machine.

Great alternative to the Breville brand

I looked at some of the other reviews and decided to give it a try. It's been a couple of months, and it does the job, the taste of coffee is still good. I have the Breville Barista Express espresso machine, the filter fit is a little different but you can squeeze it in. Be sure to pre-soak it to let it absorb water fully and rinse the charcoal to get rid of the color. I used two cups of water and made sure the water was clear before I put it.

Great fit and reasonable price.

I’ve had my breville barista express for about 2 years now with the same water filter this entire time. The descaling light kept coming on, so I had to get the descaling tablets and the solution. I had to descale it 4 times before the light turned off and the coffee started tasting right again. I think that’s due to hard water build up in my machine because I thought these water filters were worthless and refused to buy them. BUT turns out they exist for a very good reason and you need to be replacing them every 6 months to prevent your machine from accumulating build up. Luckily I found this out now and didn’t wait until the build up broke my machine. Disclaimer- if you use pre filtered water, you’re probably fine without this. But if you use good ole tap water, get yourselves some filters.

I soak in water as how the filter should be prepared before use, but charcoal immediately start discharging color into the water. Water is now completely greyed. This don't happen on Breville filter (I use for many years). I run running water for about a minute, then soak it again. Still there are still discharge of charcoal color in the water, but not as much as the first time. Third time I soak it, still some colorization in the water. Not sure now if I should use it. Is it safe?
