Very Useful
Its March 2022 as I write this now...I bought this May 2018 to get ready for the written exam for 2018 late fall season. It is a 2017 edition and from the general knowledge to the math and maps really excelled my studying. The maps were the last part of the written exam and this book got me prepared. I passed with a 85% and was rank 29 for my city in New Jersey. I've been a firefighter since October 2019 and finished two years already. I do reccomend this book. Also, after taking my written test I realized that I did not have to study the tools at all, they do not expect you to know much about the tools. You'll learn about that in the academy and on the job for your city.

Good book if the department uses this style exam.
Its a good book. Gives you practice exams and lots of exaples of questions. But its only good if the fire station you are applying to uses this style exam. I bought it for a recent test and unfortunitly it was not very helpfull just because the department i applied to didnt go with that style exam.

Questions are a bit basic, silly and a waste of time.
Barron's has other books that look more helpful than this one. I recently bought the mechanical aptitude book from them and it looks far better. This particular book is laden with ridiculously simple questions that leave you scratching your head. I feel like I wastes a few hours going through the practice exams, I also wasted money and resources having it delivered. An online prep exam probably would have been more helpful & eco-friendly. Of the questions were more challenging (and thus more realistic of an actual fire aptitude exam) it would have been 5 stars.
