Can the rods of the bed go through the curtains to hold up or does it just lay over the top?

It just lays over top. Works very well and stays on place.

Will it fit a queen size canopy bed

If you order the queen size netting, I’m sure it will,,,, I ordered the King size for my king bed and it fits perfectly.

It seems the length of our canopy will not fit the bed you are looking at. We do not have suggested brand now but it's known that the bed frame should be exactly or a little smaller than the net will be fine.

Is the top solid or open?

Solid. It’s very see through so you hardly notice. Love it!
