Summer Brain Quest: Between Grades 4 & 5

I wanted my son to review some concepts from 4th grade over the summer to be ready for 5th grade. I got this book because he said that it looked fun. Sure enough, Summer Brain Quest did not disappoint. It offers a great variety of engaging activities and exercises that he actually enjoys doing each day. He loves the sticker chart and encouragement along the way. He should be ready for 5th grade, thanks to the time he's spent in this workbook.

My kids loved these even over the summer. The activities were quick and easy, right on grade level. They loved the adventure map to track their progress!

If your child doesnt have the instilled habit of sitting and taking time on coursework they will have a hard time with anything. However most kids don't like the idea of homework but with practice, love and practical correction they can learn, that learning doesnt have to be made more difficult. That being said, this is AN EXCELLENT BOOK. My recently graduated 4th grader loves this book. Fun articles that doesn't even seem like homework. My son constantly asks to complete more than the required pages asked pr day. Infact he wishes this could be his coursework year round. The pages are on legal size. So a bit longer than standard size paper. This book has fun activities with outside the box "outdoor activities" listened in the back. It has a treasure map in the back with stickers your student will place when completion happens on the assignment (helps students see there own progress). This is organized, colorful and fun. Has side notes for students to reference and extremely interesting topics. It really doesn't seem like traditional homework. Will be purchasing these for next summer.

Our two kids love this series of workbooks. First pair of books we got in spring 2017 to use that summer. My only observation is the skipping around options can occasionally be a bit confusing (skipping around is an option for kids to elect what they want to work on by interest, but they eventually cover all aspects of the book). There are times the instructions could use a re-read (even for an adult), but generally these are good for brain stimulation. (Perhaps this observation is because it's been years since I have had to think like a 3rd grader, but really, there are a few times my daughter has asked for assistance with these lower level books K & 1st). The stickers are a GREAT motivator and outdoor activities are great. My wife got these as a summer activity to keep the kids mentally active and not feel like a chore. We both work from home, so I get to see first hand how the kids enjoy these. My daughter is advanced and was going into 3rd grade when we got the 4-5 grade book. She enjoyed it as did our younger daughter with other books in this series. We all like these so much we got another pair of books (to match their intellectual grade levels) for this recent 2018 summer. We usually have the kids do a few pages during the weekdays of summer and occasionally skip a day every 3rd or 4th day. It's easy to go at the pace your child enjoys and my little one (now 6) gets highly motivated once she gets going with these books (and that's the child I wouldn't have expected to want to do these as much. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

This workbook has been so successful that I've been moved to write a review when normally I never get around to publishing my appreciation. I've established a tradition with my kids on school breaks/holidays of them completing daily a number of workbook pages equal to their age. So my 4th grader needs to complete 9 pages a day if he wants access to electronics later in the day. My kid usually gravitates towards math so I wasn't sure what sort of resistance he would have to the other subjects. He grasped the concept of achievement stickers on a path really quickly and dove into the pages! Each page is a bit challenging yet short enough to not get too frustrating. Each leg of the quest includes ELA, math, social studies and science. There's also some additional bonus parts like outside quests, suggested reading lists and trivia flash cards. It takes my kid 30ish minutes to complete a leg of the quest (6-12 pages) so its not torturous, but feels like a little moment of intellectual exercise each day. It made such an impression on me that I turned around and got the K-1 version for his little brother even though we are well stocked with other workbooks at that level. I expect this will be a hit (or at least less hated than others if your kid is resistant) for all 4th graders.

This is my go to home school situation thanks to Covid. I have a 4th grader so we started with the 4th grade book and finished that in 3 weeks. Then we did this summer brain quest in 2 weeks. I very highly recommend this book because it has both math and English in each chapter. She gets a variety and it’s easier for me to plan the day. This book has fun and interesting exercises. The brain boxes are great and help her learn. We tried the Scholastic books too and this a million times better. And because it’s paper I don’t have to worry about her fooling around on something electronic. I highly recommend this book. I just wish it was a little longer. Our school system electronic situation is a total joke and this really saved the day. Rocking old-school paper is the only way to tackle homeschooling. There is a reason why classrooms are still 99% on paper… Because electronics all day simply doesn’t work. P.s. I also use this series for my 1st grader and she really likes them too.

PERFECT!! This is the third time I have done summer workbooks and these summer brain quest ones are perfection!! It's just a little bit to keep the brain juices flowing. One or two simple tasks each day. It's not like the ones that try to get your kid to a level where the next school year is pointless. It's not so boring that the kids cry and pack their things and run away to join the circus (*cough* Summer Bridge *cough*). I have three levels and they all match up to grade level very well (the Summer Bridge books were WAY off!). OK, maybe a little on the easy side, but I'm OK with that too avoid frustration over what is supposed to be a fun summer vacation. I just don't want their brains dissolving. The sticker map is fun for all ages - I have one going into 2nd, one into 3rd, and one into 5th. They all appreciate how this book was made to be enjoyable. I think it seems a little silly to my 10 year old, but he is just grateful they're not as awful as previous books. There is much more in here than we need since their summer is only 9 weeks long and I give them the first week of summer off as well as the week we were travelling and weekends. But my little one does extra work just because it's so fun and she wants to complete her map!

These books are great. They are colourful, at grade level, have a lot of different types of activities in them, and keep kids engaged. Maybe they are on the pricier end of things but they are worth it.

Ottimo libro estivo per ragazzi, mia figlia che trova noiosi i libri italiani per il suo livello è stata molto soddisfatta. Naturalmente tutto in inglese, pieno di giochini e quiz... Una sfida se avete bimbi curiosi e un po' più avanti rispetto al loro livello in quarta elementare
