Just the best for demodex.
I've used this several times through the years on dogs with patches of demodex mange, and it works so well. This time, I have a 4 month old German Shepherd puppy who had a big patch of scabby places on his right ear. He came here in poor shape, full of ticks and fleas, which I treated, so I wasn't surprised to see this big patch of mange, given his age and condition. After only 4 days of slathering this on his ear, today I find that the scabs are gone and his ear is healing. It's a great product that actually works, no smell, no bother to the dog, and it's affordable. Don't shy away from the small size--you probably won't even need all of this for one dog's treatment. It looks small, but it goes a long way. And did I say IT WORKS?!

Used Off-label....But It Worked!
I'm not recommending that you shouldn't follow directions...but as a retired RN and someone who loves my cats ridiculously....I was desperate. My kittens both have Demodex gatoi mange. I actually know because my vet did a skin scraping and we both saw the little buggers under the microscope....an amazingly lucky break. It is very hard to catch the mites in a skin scraping on a cat. According to my vet, the kittens were exposed to it from their mom the minute they first latched on to a nipple to nurse. There is no definitive tx/cure for this mange. I paid $120 a week for six weeks of off-label treatment of a form of Ivermectin injections...not to mention the skin scraping, etc. After six weeks there were no new lesions and they weren't scratching as much, so he stopped the injections. Within 2 weeks the bumps and scratching started all over. I live on a pension and, much as I love Samson and Lilah, I really didn't want them to have more injections (that were off-label too... and who knows what the long-terms effects could be). I went back to the internet for more research. The best comments I could find were for a product with Rotenone in it. Goodwinol had it and the rest of the ingredients looked pretty benign...so I ordered it. Their mange is localized to primarily the chest and neck area so, because they are long haired, I shaved the area so the ointment would actually get to the skin. I didn't want them licking it so I made little turtleneck coverings out of newborn infant head warmers (worked like a charm). The ointment has no odor and has benzocaine in it so they didn't mind it at all. I put it on them once a day for 4 days and, since the lesions were dried up and they weren't scratching anymore, I have not used it for the last 3 days. I love the fact that I can control how much I need to use and when. So far it has been like a miracle ointment for them. I will keep watching them and use when needed....and pray it keeps working. The "off-label" part is that it says it should be used for DOGS. I'm not recommending that anyone else tries it on their cats....just sharing my experience. 04/06/2013 It's been 10 days and the kittens are still doing great....haven't had to use any more ointment. I will always keep this product on hand.

Shipped fast and worked well!
When our dachshund was a puppy, he started to get bald spots on his neck right after receiving his last puppy shot. We took him to the vet and spent hundreds on a scraping to find out he had demodex. Then the vet had us use this horrible dip weekly to kill off the mites. It did clear up after 4 weeks of using the dip, but it is a really strong pesticide and we weren't allowed to touch him for 24 hours after using the dip. Recently, when I noticed a little bald patch on my dogs ear, I found this product on Amazon and ordered it because of the positive reviews. Definitely cleared up the scaliness of the bald spot on the dogs ear within a few days. Although, the fur has not grown back, it does look a lot better. And honestly, I'm not entirely sure if the spot was due to demodex because I have read dachshunds are prone to balding spots especially around their ears.

Worked for my big dog
My dog - an old chocolate lab with melanoma- had lost so much of his hair. Everytime I'd get it to grow it would fall out again- nothing worked. I tried him a lamb/rice food that was $$$, and on the raw diet and that didn't help. I used expensive flea products, even treated my yard. I was about to pull MY OWN hair out. His fur loss was on his butt and tail. He'd had negative skin scrapes but I just really wanted to get his hair back, so I used this and some seameal supplement because I wanted to cover all my bases. Between the two, and a flea control solution I also bought on Amazon, I saw hair regrowth in a week. It took about a month before I saw fur everywhere, but it was easy to tell every day he was looking better and better. It's a tiny little jar for a big dog, but I was able to get about a week's worth of application out of it on his troubled spots- his backend and tail. It has a vaseline like feel and seemed very moisturizing to him. It really helped his itching. It smelled a tad medicinal but not bad. Along with this, I got an used a supplement called Seameal, and I also used the Little City Dogs Flea control product that you give in food once a month. It took maybe 6 weeks and his coat really started looking so pretty and thick. It really was a good deal considering how much I'd spent on 'solutions' that didn't work! This stuff is sorta like greasy, yellow ointment, but it doesn't stink. My dog didn't mind me putting it on him at all, except when I messed with that tail. I found it easiest to just get it all over my hand, grab his tail at the base and let my hand go down his tail and he ran off. He never liked anyone messing with his tail. I stopped when this one was empty. If you have a very big dog with a lot of area affected, you might want to go ahead and get two.

It Works...And It Works Well
My pitbull/lab mix puppy developed mange this summer and nothing seemed to help. Rocco was miserable and looked pretty bad too. He lost 90% of the hair on his head and face and also tons of hair on different parts of his body. I read lots of good reviews about this product so I decided to try it. Since getting the product it has worked wonders. The hair on his head is growing back and he's not scratching himself to death. The only problem is that because we focused on putting the medicine on his head where the hairloss and scabs were worse we didn't use as much on the rest of his body. Now even though his head is healing the mange is still spreading everywhere else and we are out of the cream. I have ordered somemore for his body but learn from my mistake. If your dog has a more severe case order 2 jars or the one pound jar, because the one ounce jar is tiny and you will run out quickly. Other than that great product.

Works well !!
My new 7 mo puppy I got from a shelter has demodetic mange. I was told by the staff there to wait until his immune system kicks in, but I felt sorry for him being itchy and that it was getting all over his mouth. Took him to a vet who dipped him with amitaban , but he got very lethargic right after, and he still needed to go through few more dips. I didn't wish to dip him any further. Looked around for alternative approach. Got him into Taste of the Wild Grain-Free Pacific Stream Dry Dog Food for Puppy, 30-Pound Bag diet, sprinkling supplement Solid Gold Seameal Mineral and Vitamin Supplement for Horses, Dogs, and Cats (1 pound) , and lastly, this "Goodwinol Ointment". Rather tough to apply around the eye, I use qtips and would not go too close to the eyes, hoping the food and supplements will help fighting against it. After a month, things are clearing up; he shades a lot (not sure whether it's because of the warm winter) - but his new coat turns to be really soft and shiny - and can't tell that he used to have mange. I am just glad I find this alternative approach that works better than all those chemicals!!!

Works if used correctly with renuplex shampoo for mange
I did the same thing as others. I slathered this all over my dog's abdomen which is where he has crusty sores. Cooper was miserable. I immediately washed it off. A few days later tried again but I only use a finger tip of ointment and spread it over a 5 inch area rubbing it in well. In about 15 min the dog is not itching or licking. One note my dog had the mange which was misdiagnosed by several vets who charged me alot of money. I use renuplex shampoo for severe dermatitis and mange. I followed instructions bathing dog 3 x wk for two weeks. After that I bathe him 2x wk instead of once wk. He was almost hairless and now has a beautiful coat. I actually saw dead mites.
