You get the remote keys for your car and NEVER expect these keys to die on you. However, if you own a car long enough, the remote key will eventually die on you. It's powered by a lithium or chromium battery which lasts 5-8 years depending on how much the key is used. [The funny thing is that I drove a Toyota Camry for 15 years and NEVER had remote key issues. I never changed the battery in either of my keys! What was so special about those remote keys, I haven't a clue...] That happened to me this weekend! I was going out and just about to leave my car when I noticed funny behavior. I tried to lock my car remotely but ALL the windows opened! I tried to unlock it with the key but nothing happened! It was really frustrating and I went online to find out what was going on. [I was still able to close and open my doors manually.] The car owner's manual was NO HELP in this instance. The manufacturer WANTS you to go to the dealership and spend money to buy a new key! Online, I heard the price of a new key was between $200 to $400. RIDICULOUS! If you get a new FOB/remote key, it's at least $90 to $100 by the time you get the new key cut to fit your lock AND get the new FOB programmed for your vehicle! Your best option is seeing if you CAN revive your key by changing the battery. After of prying the key case open with jewelry screwdrivers and a tiny flathead screwdriver, it's easy to replace the existing battery. The problem is the battery for many key remotes is a more obscure design they rarely have in stores. I was able to find the battery at an auto supply store but those are notorious for overcharging on items which led to my buying a pair of replacement 1620 batteries online. Of course, just changing the battery DOESN'T mean your remote key will work again right away! I had to watch a video twice to see how to pair the remote key with my car again so that it WOULD open and close the doors properly. Thankfully, changing battery WAS the first step to getting my key back. I didn't have to spend $100+ in a replacement key. Reprogamming/resynching the remote key with the car was a bit of a pain but it didn't take me hours. It was like 5-10 minutes at most before my remote key was working properly again.

Panasonic makes THE industry-standard lithium coin cell batteries. I won't buy any other brand of the CR1620 battery for my needs. Dependable, stable, no-leaks and proven. They seem to hold their charge VERY well. IMO you get what you pay for and so this is an excellent value.
