White Hot Truth: Clarity for Keeping It Real on Your Spiritual Path - from One Seeker to Another Review: Sitting down with your best friend to hash out the problems of your week ... - Sitting down with your best friend to hash out the problems of your week and the joys of your life is one of the best ways to bring focus, love, and expansion to your life. Sitting down to read one of Danielle LaPorte's book does exactly the same thing. You know there will be hard truths, exuberant laughter, and all the warm feels you can handle. White Hot Truth brings all that and more! I'll be honest, it took me a few chapters to really get into this book. The messages were solid and the writing comfortable. It was like I was just going over the basics of catch-up with a friend, nice but nothing earth shattering. Then the book dove deep around chapter eight. Chapter eight is all about how to love with an open heart but still honor yourself with healthy boundaries. This stems from one of my all time favorite blog posts of Danielle's. She delivers all the same shivers and "oh, hell yes!" in the book as the blog, but the book gives even more depth and love. The book continues with chapters like "You are your own guru", "The path within your path", and "Discernment is everything". Danielle even touches on the ways our society has warped and wrangled sacred sex. She doesn't worry about upsetting the well established trends in the new age/lightworker scene. Instead, she points out the problems, gives a little love, and provides some ideas for solutions. The same tone continues into her chapter "Power tools". I wish this was required reading for everyone who takes up meditation or buys crystals for healing! Instead of saying that these tools are necessary or just fun, Danielle points out the obvious. Belief is power. Belief in the wrong tools or using tools at the wrong time in your journey can be a hindrance or even wound on your path. I loved reading that truth! Finally, the last two chapters are amazing. I didn't want to go all fan girl in this review, but it's hard not to when the book ends with raw and beautiful wisdom like this. Rarely, have I read such thoughtful and wise words on the problem of evil as Danielle's in the chapter "Regarding Suffering". If you've ever questioned the why of suffering, you should seek this book out. The book ends with a chapter called "Devotion". It's the perfect ending for a book written to the seekers and healers. So many of us seek a connection and a purpose. It's easy in this seeking to get tangled into viewing devotion through the wrong lens. After reading this chapter, I reevaluated my own relationship to devotion (and so much more!). Wisdom, Joy, and love radiate from this incredible book. I've already been hounding my friends to purchase the book or put their name on the waitlist at the library. This is the delicious read that you are looking for. It might not all be what you need to hear. It might not all be as enlightening as some chapters were for me. However, I can guarantee that there is something worthwhile for everyone in this book. And if the topic isn't enough to make you pick up the book, take a listen to the audiobook. Danielle reads the book and her voice is like dark chocolate and red wine. It's produced very well and makes for an extremely enjoyable listen. Review: "You are the authority on you" - “I’m a seeker who writes about what I find. And maybe, on just the right day, I can help you flatten your learning curve. If I’ve got anything to say, it’s this: you are the authority on you.” Danielle LaPorte - White Hot Truth: Clarity for keeping it real on your spiritual path from one seeker to another I am a huge fan of Danielle LaPorte. I love her clear, crisp, grounded, heart-filled way of talking and thinking. I’ve followed her work for close to 10 years so when I saw that ‘White Hot Truth’ was coming out, I signed up to read ahead, review and be part of the ‘White Hot Truth’ launch team. I knew from experience this would be something very special, a honed diamond sparkling its message for me and others to catch. White Hot Truth is this diamond, each chapter a facet of light, grounded in a memoir-kind of reflection, distilling experience that heads straight for the heart. I alternated between reading on-screen and listening to Danielle’s voice via the audiobook, making the reading process all the richer. The essence of the book is to become aware of the lies or unhelpful blocks that may have found their way into our trusting hearts including the “really big lies” of inadequacy, authority and affiliation. And to recognise that we are able to take in so much influence and so many ideas and still be the authority on ourselves, the one to make the decisions with wisdom, the one to set boundaries with an open heart. Danielle draws from wide sources to find the most perfect quotes to place strategically. And then sprinkled through like stars sending their energy through the text, there are Danielle’s own quotable quotes and truthbombs. A few of my favourites of so many I have highlighted: On flow: “It was too much flow and not enough restraint. I was a river in need of some riverbanks.” On forgiveness: “The heart runs on its own clock, untethered from calendar days or years.” On self-help: “The best self-help is self-compassion.” On approval: “Working for approval takes up a lot of energy, and it can be a huge distraction from seeing the gifts that you already hold in your hands.” A key piece of wisdom threaded through-out is that of paradox. White Hot Truth shows how with clarity, you can take both perspectives and find a path. For example, you can lead with your heart and your head. You don’t have to choose. How many of us have shut down one side of the equation because we fear losing the other, when really it’s a false dichotomy. In White Hot Truth, Danielle speaks directly, supporting us to honour our authenticity and love who and what we are. She encourages us to recognise where we may have inadvertently blunted our ability to cut through. She shows us how to speak up without fear, through being a voice and model for how to speak up. Mark Nepo in ‘The Book of Awakening’ talks about the energy of being real, of ‘mana’, of the extraordinary power of being who we are to influence others: “In this way, without any intent to shape others, we simply have to be authentic, and a sense of ‘mana’, of spiritual light and warmth, will emanate from our souls, causing others to grow - not towards us, but towards the light that moves through us.” White Hot Truth made me smile with recognition and more than once, I held my heart as my eyes filled with tears as something broke through, probably self-compassion. At times laugh-out-loud funny, other times shocking and sobering, it’s a ball of bright authentic light offered as a guide from one seeker to another to illuminate our path. I’m so grateful for its warm and passionate influence. I know it will shape and guide my own inspired path now and for years to come.

Listening to Danielle’s words through my earphones while I cooked my way through Christmas was like a secret present to myself. So many moments of clarity that had been dancing around the edge of my heart spoken in black and white. It is time now to practice. It is time now for devotion. Thank you Danielle for every word x

Danielle shares her personal experiences with the mysteries of spirituality and what it means to be human in a poignant and often hilarious way. She brings a sense of the obvious to the strange and sheds enlightening perspectives on obtuse dogmas. By showcasing her many adventures into retreat centres and Buddhist ashrams, she clearly turns us towards the mirror to seek our own White Hot Truth, from the only guru that can be 100% spot-on... ourself. My clearest and most helpful (as well as most irritating) take-away is this: if I put all my belief into a being, concept or religious doctrine, I give away my own power and sovereignty. For a time this passing over the responsibility feels liberating, but after a while it weighs us down. The Truth of any matter - that's the White Hot Truth - is always going to be found at my OWN centre. I have to come to it through my own experiences, my own lens, my own filters... so that it makes sense to me. Then I can interpret and act from that place of pure Love and Light in my dance through this life.
