Seed Starting Mix From Scratch
I decided to mix my own seed starting blend using coco coir, perlite, and vermiculite instead of buying a pre-made bag, and it turned out great. The coco coir fluffed up nicely after hydrating and broke apart easily. It has a clean, earthy feel and makes a great base. Once I blended in perlite and vermiculite, the texture was exactly what I was going for. Light, airy, and easy to work with. The perlite adds drainage and keeps the mix from compacting, while the vermiculite helps hold just enough moisture so the trays do not dry out too quickly. When you grab a handful, it holds together slightly but falls apart easily. That is perfect for delicate seedlings that need airflow around their roots. I filled multiple seed trays with this mix and it distributes evenly without clumping. It feels balanced and professional grade, but made at home. If you like having control over your soil inputs and want something tailored for seed starting, this combination works really well.

I love these
They expand a lot! Make sure you use a container that is big enough. You may be surprised how much soil you will end up with after they absorb all the water. I haven't seen any unwanted particles or trash in these bricks. You can get perlite, vermiculite, coco chunks, compost, etc. and make your own mix. I mix these with perlite and have had 100% germination rate with good seeds. It keeps a lot of water and can suffocate your plants if you don't use an amendment to aerate it. The moisture can also be a good environment for fungus gnats and can cause damping off disease. Bottom water after seeds sprout.

Lowest price coconut coir on Amazon - GREAT QUALITY PRODUCT - Repeat buyer!
It doubles in size after you add water. It is BETTER than potting soil and very nutrient dense for growing plants. This product HOLDS MOISTURE in the soil better and longer than conventional potting soil - so it is good for water conservation. I spent HOURS researching the best price and this is the best deal. I am a long time loyal customer and will buy it again and again. Coconut coir has everything you need to grow crops. I do not have a car and got fed up dragging heavy bags of potting soil home from the store in rolling carts. Because this is a dehydrated product it is lightweight. This is MUCH BETTER for the environment that potting soil - most potting soil is NOT from renewable green sources - such as peat moss which is dug up from the ground in a destructive non-environmental manner - peat moss takes about a century to create - it is from ancient peat bogs in the ground and dug up to sell as peat moss. Perlite in potting soil is heated at around 800 degrees and TERRIBLE carbon footprint. Coconut coir is the shell and hairy fibers on the shell which left over after fresh coconut is harvested and cracked open for processing as a food product. Buy purchasing Coconut coir we are eliminating WASTE by using the shell for a good purpose.

Heavy bricks, rinse well
The coir part is decent. There were a few pieces of plastic ribbon stuff. When I went to soak and rinse I was surprised by the sand content. If you skim the coco coir off the top of the water and reach down into the bucket there was maybe 3 tablespoons of beach sand in a brick. No soil and pretty darn clean, great stuff. But if youโre avoiding sand in a potting mix make sure to let it settle out onto the bottom in water. I include it to hold more moisture but make sure to agitate the sand to loosen any salt that might be trapped.

Coconut coir is good for indoor plants
Very good quality and deliver fast. I use it with boiling water that can expand almost to 10 quarts box per brick. I don't have problems for indoor planting all year round with this method.

Poor quality, poor capacity.
Poor quality, poor capacity. First, let me say I rarely write reviews. So the fact that I am writing a review is a big deal. The price for these coco coir bricks was excellent. The quality is garbage. I typically pasteurize one brick in a 5 gallon bucket. One brick could barely hold 3 quarts of water, and it hardly expanded at all. I will need to use two bricks next time to equal one standard quality brick that I would typically use. This actually surprised me as I would have assumed that all coco coir was the same, but my guess is these cheaper priced bricks (with their cheaper quality) come from floor sweepings and leftover end pieces at the processor. My experience.

THIS is the best brand of coconut fiber brick ever! It works quickly with water, Iโm not waiting forever for it do itโs thing. It really helps as an additive for my medium to keep it moist longer, plus it aerates the soil for root growth!

Doesn't dry out as fast as just soil
A little goes a long way. Bought these to use for starting all my vegetable seedlings in the house mixed 50/50 with soil and keeps moisture in. All my seedlings produced and didn't dry out Would recommend
