One of the Best Sounding Amps for the Price
By far one of the best sounding headphones DAC & AMP for this price. The sound quality is a huge improvement over the cheaper < $20 ones you can find all over the place. The audio is truly high quality and HiRes. Here are the pros: 1) HiRes is true, accurate, and sounds great. MQA also works as advertised 2) It's small and easy to handle and keep in my pocket 3) Despite my initial concerns, the braided cord to the phone USB-C jack is actually VERY sturdy and very well made. It has not untwisted on me even a tiny bit! Very impressive they were able to accomplish that 4) It works with just about any phone or computer 5) The jack is sturdy, the build quality is amazing, the all-metal casing makes it feel purposely made as well as you can Here's the poor things I found: 1) It does get warm, and especially so if placed in your pocket or under a blanket. It does have a good bit of heat that comes off of it. When playing higher sample rate tracks, such as 96kHz it will get much warmer 2) The app is practically useless and offers no added features Overall I am very impressed and would purchase again and again. Despite my few poor findings, I still rate this 5 stars for exceeding all my expectations. Also if you're worried about the braided cable: don't be. Mine has held up perfectly, see photos

Entry level hi-fi
As a musician, I often need to play recorded material into the mix. The easiest way to do that is by plugging the phone into one of the stereo channels on my mixer. Sadly, phones don't have 3.5mm audio jacks anymore, so like most people, I was using a cheap USB dongle. It worked. More, I cannot say. I finally got sick of the crappy sound and decided to find something that would be better. In the world of the audiofile, spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars is typical for a good audio interface. I wasn't prepared to do that for this application. Enter Fiio. I have used Fiio products in the past and they've always delivered great bang for the buck. The KA1 is no exception! The high end is far more distinct than the cheap dongles, and the sound stage is noticeably larger. Finally, the bass is very natural and well-defined without being boomy. The build quality seems very good. The cable looks to use good materials and the casing on the body is aluminum, not cheap plastic. While this device basically sits on my desk, it is very small and portable if you have a pair of wired headphones you want to use on the go. This will sound much better than what's built into your phone.

Frustratingly good sound quality, build quality not so much
Every part of me wanted to write this off as a scam. You don't need a discrete dac for mobile listening, cheap Amazon adapters and my laptop's stock headphone jack are fine. Right? Wrong! I wish desperately that this was snake oil, but it's not. The listening experience is noticeably better, even just streaming Spotify at 320Kbps. I'd say this is a little overpriced for what it is, for 50 American dollars I want something a little more durable, but the sound quality is a stark improvement over your standard cheap USB-C to 3.5mm dongles. That being said, if you don't have decent headphones to pair with it, I wouldn't bother. My Meze 99s definitely sound way better through it, but it doesn't do much for apple wired earbuds. If you already have wired headphones you like, the KA1 is absolutely worth it... if you get it on sale. I'd pay $30-35, maybe wait for Prime Day. There are too many easy points of failure (not enough stress relief at each end of the cable, especially considering the weight of the DAC side), and it's not very compatible with women's jeans. If your pockets aren't deep enough to hold your whole phone, this'll be dangling out of your pocket, putting stress on the cable, and your phone's charging port. The cable to my headphones has better tension relief, but the design of the DAC renders it useless. Especially given how short the cable is, I'd like it to be a little beefier. Its current design looks fancy, but doesn't inspire confidence when it comes to longevity. Fiio, put this chip in a stiffer chassis and give it a replaceable cable. Killer audio processing, shame they cheaped out on the simple stuff.

Added some volume, opened up the sound stage
Use this with my Audio Technica ATH-M50x and my Sennheiser 560s. Listening on Spotify at full quality. The dongle really helped power both pairs of headphones. With the Sennheiser open back cans the sound stage really seems to open up pretty noticeably. The Audio Technica cans have more pronounced highs and mids to go along with the already pronounced lows. For $50 I'm super pleased. I no longer have to max out the volume to get good sound. The dangling cable on this unit seems less than durable but only time will tell. IMHO this is definitely worth a try at such an affordable price. Great addition to my setup, especially for use out in the everyday world.

Wanted to love but..
Great audio quality with one fatal flaw, the USB C cable is not built to last - and without being able to replace it it bricks the entire dac. I think this is good for beginners but anyone who uses this regularly is likely to encounter problems with integrity over time. Ultimately disappointed, but wow what a bang for buck when it worked.

Really nice sound from this affordable little dongle
Fantastic sound quality from this tiny dac. I bought this and the Fosi DS1 headphone DAC to compare. The Fosi is more than double the size and weight. This ka1 seems more portable. Sound quality is much better than the white Apple dongle. However, the sound quality, power, drive, sound stage, sparkle, pop, etc, is all superior on the much larger and more expensive Fosi for critical listening.

Somehow less functional than a regular dongle
Don’t let yourself get fooled into thinking you need a dac adapter in order to play Hifi on your phone, a regular dongle is perfectly fine (yes, even for playing flacs), in fact this has less functionality than a regular dongle (at least on ios). After two days of owning this the firmware corrupted, and there is 0 ways to reinstall it on ios (currently) so you have to use an android or windows device to fix it if this happens. The ios fiio app is also completely useless when it comes to tweaking ANY settings since it only has settings for bluetooth fiio dacs, even though the android version can and does have settings for the KA1. Also, the KA1 does not support mic passthrough on ios (even though it can on android) so if you have an iphone you better hope you never need to make any calls while you use this. It also consumes a lot of power, it is my fault for not anticipating it, but my phone loses battery far, FAR quicker than I expected, while in use I get about a third of the time I usually get out of my phone (iphone 14) before I need to charge it again. And even though I have been as careful as I possibly could be, since this costs so much for what it does, the cable broke after two months. Regular 3.5mm to lightning dongles can (somehow) do more than this for a quarter (or less!) of the price of this. I can confidently say this has been my absolute worst purchase when it comes to audio products, and I feel like a sucker for falling for the lies that the phone dac/amp industry has sold me.

Exactly what I need from an audio adapter
I am beyond satisfied with this adapter! The volume level is great, much louder than most other adapters I've tried and the quality and clarity is noticeably better as well. This is everything I need out of an adapter as a lover of headphone listening and musician. And it's only 50 bucks, works great in my car too
