Works for me
This was the only one I could find with the length and options I needed because I wanted to connect to the side not the top. It is working and I've had it set up for six weeks, we even had a tropical storm with maybe 40 mph wind gust, and it hasn't budged. The poles are very sturdy metal. I wish they were 1 inch longer or if there was an option just to buy one longer pole. The metal poles are very heavy, and do contribute to some of the unsteadiness, because I have this attached horizontally rather than vertically. The joints are all plastic. I am pretty certain if you wanted to take this apart and move it a lot it would fail pretty fast. I tightened the knob at the mount as much as I thought I could without cracking it. It really wants to spin to the left but since I don't touch it at all it has stayed. The other two joints in the middle are like gears so you do not have a high degree of custom positions, it's approximately a quarter inch for each turn. It took a lot for me to get the shoe off to mount it on the side instead, they give you an Allen wrench and I ended up laying it on the floor and stepping on the wrench with my foot because it was screwed on so tight. I had a very specific and unique situation and this worked so I'm giving it five stars. I also thought it was a very fair price. If you need to mount something and leave it there, I highly recommend this. It would also work well if you only have to turn it where the bar connects to the clamp in a vertical situation. I do wish it came in white but maybe I will paint it one day. Note that the piece on the top where I have the ring outdoor cam attached is something I already had (repurposed selfie stick camera holder), it did not come with this. This came with a ball joint attachment that I did not use.

Impossible to Adjust
Update: Seller reached out and made things right. In addition, after a few weeks of work, I've gotten used to the way I had to install it, and it serves its purpose well. Overall the item seems well constructed, and should mostly fit my needs, but it has one major manufacturing issue that will make it less functional than it could be. Due to the location of the shelves above my desk, it would be most useful to set this up with the base in the horizontal configuration. Unfortunately, even though the included instruction booklet describes the assembly of the base plate and articulation joint in the very first step, mine came preattached. In the wrong position. And the bolt was thoroughly seized. Great. Since the torque necessary to loosen the bolt was far greater than the (dismal) yield strength of the steel from which it was made, I'm now the proud owner of a stripped out bolt. I didn't even get a chance to apply much torque. Were talking maybe fifteen in-lb here. It's a small allen wrench. So even though this advertises versatility in the position of the clamp position, don't count on it. Chances are, they could all be this way.

Used to support a projector to project line art on a surface
My wife wanted a way to project line art onto things on a table for a project she was working on. Part 1, short throw, compact, inexpensive projector Part 2, how to mount the projector so it's over the table where she needs the image This works very well to allow her to position the projector where she needs it - easily clamps to the table when she's doing the project, then easily removed to get the table back to it's regularly scheduled tasks.

Perfect!
I needed a desk arm that was adjustable but that also held in place and this was it. It has 3 notches that tighten keeping the arms in the angle you place them. It’s very sturdy. I use it to record art videos on my phone and I have the same viewing angle all the time now.

Be Wary, Be VERY Wary When Trusting Your Camera to this Stand
I ordered this TARION Camera Desk Mount Stand Overhead Camera Mount for the sole purpose of doing top down photography. The first one that was delivered would not stay steady and seemed to have been initially delivered to someone else who returned it. Why? Because it was not at all stable, and was partially assembled through the end of the directions at Steps 1 and 2. As I stated, I returned it and the seller sent me a replacement very quickly. Unfortunately, the second stand also had been completed through Steps 1 and 2 so for purposes of this review I will go ahead without being able to attach the articulating arms on the side of the clasp in lieu of the top mount that is necessary with the state in which the unit was again delivered. The attachment of the articulating arms to the base was relatively easy; the parts all fit well together and as far as stability this unit was far superior to the first one that had been shipped - at least until the final step when you are dealing with attaching your camera to the last articulating arm. The most aggravating problem popped up with attempts to connect my Nikon D-750 to the end of the articulating arms. Here you have 2 choices, screw your 2-1/2 lb. camera onto the ballhead and then the ballhead into the last arm; or screw the ballhead onto the last articulating arm and then screw the camera onto the ballhead. Neither method is very comfortable to accomplish - especially when dealing with a setup that costs well north of $2000 which you are trying to screw onto an arm that is bouncing as you rotate the camera around a 1/4-20 screw. Once firmly attached taking pictures from above is easy if, while moving the arms to get the camera where you want, it is a bit scary again because the entire construction is a bit wobbly like a Rube Goldberg set up. However, all in all once over the initial hesitation and worry about using this product with very expensive equipment, I can imagine that people might love it. However, I doubt I will ever be comfortable trusting this wobbly construction to hold my expensive camera equipment in the air. I, therefore, give the TARION Camera Desk Mount Stand Overhead Camera Mount a hesitant and soft 3 stars. I'd you are in the market and purchase this item I just suggest that you be very wary and careful in its use.

A fan favorite camera stand among masochists
I recently made this purchase to assist me in my stop motion animation work. I was looking forward to using the mount when it came, but there were already red flags from the moment I opened the box. First off, there were parts of the Mount already assembled- the first two steps of the instructions tell you to slide the articulating arm joint into the base plate and then to tighten the pieces together with a hexagon screw and a screw driver which are meant to be included in the packaging. However, the pieces were already assembled in the plastic when I had opened the box. In the moment I hadn’t thought much about it, but in hindsight, I was probably sent a used product when I had paid full for a brand new one. After I finished assembling the rest of the stand, I tried attaching my new Canon rebel T100 to the top of it to test how stable it was. Everything seemed fine, until it came time to detach my camera when I was done. The screw broke out of it and now it’s stuck inside the camera body. So far, I haven’t been able to come to a solution for how to take the piece out of my camera. It’s in too tight for pliers to remove, and through the past three hours I’ve spent trying to take it out, the only thing that’s gotten looser is my will to live. Despite it all, I am writing this review to warn others like myself four days ago, joyous and full of wonder, to take a second and reconsider their life choices. In short, unless you truly hate yourself and your camera, do not buy this product.

Great little mount
This is a great cheap little mount. Lots of different variations of placement. Very little vibration like I see with other less solid mounts. I use it with my knockoff gopro.

Handy gadget
This is a well made little desk mount for camera equipment. I wanted something like this to mount a white flash reflector panel over and area I use for macro-photography in my home studio. This works very well for that but you have to be realistic. Although quite strong this will never be as rigid as a true tripod. Yet this one is quite strong so perfect for the function I put it too since the reflector is very lightweight. I am not sure about mounting heavy cameras on it.

Joints are tough to use
Out of all my arms (and I have a quite few), this is the hardest to operate and get into position. If I hadn't enthousiastically thrown out the box, I probably would have returned this. Now I'll make due until I am fed up and a get more easily operated / smooth arm.

ottimo
