Best camera for recording video
I spent so much time reviewing cameras as this was such an expensive purchase it came down to the Sony a7iii and the canon EOS R. From the 3 cameras this one just came above in all the categories except in low light but as I live in Arizona all my shooting will be in the day. I love using this camera it has such an amazing drop down menu. if I was going to be taking pictures I would not have chosen this as micro 4/3 isn't great for pictures. I love this camera and the auto focus is good but you just have to use manual instead of auto but not much of a con!

Great for video, great mirrorless cam
After owning this product for over 3 years, I can say that I am 100% satisfied with this purchase. I purchased this camera to start creating media content for my music and other online content (live streaming, highlights, etc). The included lens in the bundle was perfect to get me started because I had virtually no knowledge of photography or videography so I didn’t know what lens I would need. The camera is no slouch, you will need to educate yourself if you are a newbie like me. Luckily there is a plethora of easy to digest information for this camera. Highlights: - great stabilization - ability to manual focus or use auto - second screen flips out and rotates - touch screen - holds up well after 3 years I love this camera.

Simple and easy. Great value for the bundle
Simple and easy. Great value for the bundle. Tried looking at others and this one is a great way to start. Shipping was quick enough but there was a slight delay. Probably a UPS issue.

A camcorder won't give you the look a DSLR can with a nice depth of field
The big thing this camera does that no other DSLR manufacturer seems willing to do is to allow unlimited continuous video recording. Anyone who shoots long form video (like a video podcast, discussion, interviews, etc) would either need to get a camcorder or deal with stopping recording every 30 minutes or so and then start recording again. Even an external recorder (Shogun for example) doesn't work because most DSLRs live view screen will shut off after 30 minutes of inactivity (like when you're recording a long video but the external recorder is doing the recording and the camera is actually sitting idle). Even a Canon with Magic Lantern can't get around this with it's feature to auto turn recording back on at the 30 minute mark, it takes a few seconds and there will be a gap. A camcorder won't give you the look a DSLR can with a nice depth of field. So for all those Youtubers who need long form recording, this is the camera for you, plus it doesn't overheat like quite a few DSLRs do. Only downside is the HUGE file sizes, even on the lowest 1080P settings, you're looking at close to 1GB a minute (depending on what you're shooting, I average 750MB a minute). Can't imagine what 4K is like. Which is why another great feature it has is dual SD card slots. You can mirror them for redundancy or when one fills up, it starts recording on the other, doubling your recording time. It even allows for photos on one card and video on the other to help with file management. The stills part of this camera are underwhelming but serviceable. Low light performance isn't great and high ISOs introduce lots of grain. But in good lighting, the 6K burst shot is pretty amazing in the right situations, and time lapse features are great. Focus racking is pretty cool too, but that's mainly for video but can come in handy for still images too. Overall, if you do video with longer takes (streams etc), this is the only DSLR option for you.

Get the Firmware Upgrades!
Love this camera! Plain and Simple. I had no experience with any camera that didn't come on an iPhone, so to say I was a novice when I bought this, is an understatement. It's taken a lot of practicing, reading and more importantly Youtube watching to get a handle on all the settings (There are a ton! -- For a novice anyway). My only problem I have now is, I take so many videos and pictures, I have to massively increase my storage! The only Con I can put against this camera is the price point for any novice picture taker. You can still do a great job of taking photos and creating Youtube videos on much less expensive models. OK, I guess the 2nd CON I would put against this camera is how to add the V LOG upgrade. They mail you the product code and then you have to hit the Japan website to push/pull files. This needs to be done digitally!

Lack of video autofocus is unacceptable in 2017
I owned this camera only for 1 week along with the 14-140 mark II, took it to Yosemite National Park came home with a lot of smooth looking 60p 4k footings - that were out of focus 50% of the time. Overall most of the recordings were completely ruined and I got a big laugh from my family for my "new high tech camera". It is a puzzle why Panasonic are insisting on contrast detect autofocus while all its competitors have given up on it?

Part of my work is wildlife filming particularly underwater. I got the GH5 together with a Nauticam housing and have used it many times on professional broadcast shoots ands well as for stock footage production. The micro 4/3 makes it easy to travel with, compared to some large broadcast dedicated systems. As I use it together with the Ninja V recorder it meets many tier 2 camera requirements of broadcasters and I have shot entire broadcast productions on it. I will not review the entirety of the camera options but here is a overview of what I like and what could be improved What I like: Great stabilization with the Leica 12-60 lens (even better on the mark 2 version) Full HMDI out allowing 10 bit raw footage to an external recorder Double card slot allowing either long recording sessions or a backup recording on one of the cards in case of card failure Small but sturdy body What can be improved: The on/off button is THE weak point of the camera and I have had it break (after many many uses). should be made or better materials Vlog should be included (is on the Mark 2 version) Autofocus can be slower in low light / contrast situation I bought the camera specifically for underwater and wildlife filming and it has served me very well. I recently bought the mark 2 version and still use the GH5 for my work.

1/2 hr ago I received this camera from Amazon.ca and sold by "123easyship". I became very suspicious about the product when I saw the box with all the bar code information on it covered by white stickers. Very disappointed to discover that the "Limited Worldwide Warranty" that came with the camera clearly reads that the warranty is only valid if the product was purchased in Panama, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Peru and Chile. Buyers beware. The product is new and arrived in an unopened box. I will write a more extensive review once the battery is charged and the camera is operational.
