Is the 3.4" pictured measurement wrong; are these actually for 3.625" standard 4"x4" posts?

I am not sure of the actual measurement. I do know that the treated, and cedar 4x4 commercial posts that I used to construct a solar panel rack, worked just fine in these anchors. A really solid connection too.

You will need a strong cement glue,Amazon sell glue for these. it you have to remove it you mite have to use sawsall or angle grinder.

Can I pound these into dirt? I want to use with 4x4 garden totems?

You can but if the totems are too top heavy the anchor will pull out. You may want use cement. I used them to build a fence but I alternated the smaller anchors with 2 foot ground spikes in cement.
