Welcome Home, Once More!
When I bought my first Vikings Blade Chieftain safety razor, the shave was unbelievably close, smooth and comfortable. The razor came with five blades. These blades were a key ingredient in those marvelous first shaves. Since then (after those original blades were spent), I’ve been “chasing the blade.” I tried to find a similar blade that performed as well as those Swedish steel blades that came with the Vikings Blade Chieftain. Some blade brands came close in replicating that first wonderful shave. But, none hit the bulls-eye. That’s why I was delighted to discover that the folks at Vikings Blade decided to finally bring to market these original blades! I ordered immediately. On first use, they are everything I remember from that first shave! Made in the U.S.A. of premium Swedish steel, these blades are double wrapped (a really nice touch) and provide just the right amount of sharpness and smoothness. My skin borders on the sensitive side and these blades really give me a wonderfully close shave. But, if you have coarse hair, Vikings Blade suggests that these razor blades may not work for you. If you require a sharp blade that also has a silky smooth quality to it, then this is the blade for you! Beginners will love this blade (as did I when I first came back to wet shaving), due to it being just plain safe. And experienced wet shavers will appreciate it’s smooth, yet sharp quality resulting in a BBS three-pass shave. I’ve already used one blade in a vintage Gillette Ball End razor and my original Chieftain safety razor. Each gave me a close, smooth shave. (The Chieftain was much more efficient). But each razor, with the Vikings Blade razor blade installed, gave me a shave without nicks cuts or any irritation at all. I’ve used many different safety razors including double edge, single edge, and injectors. And in using those different razors, I tried a wide variety of razor blades. I can honestly say, these Vikings Blade razor blades are at the very top of my list! My new number one! They give me an exceptional shave. These blades, along with the Chieftain razor are what brought me back to traditional wet shaving! The folks at Vikings Blade say that these blades are good for 5 to 7 shaves. This means your daily shave is only pennies a day. Although I haven't used this first blade that many times yet (two shaves so far), I feel that I’m on track for a good five shaves. (I’ll update this review when I reach that point). Full disclosure: I’ve been a fan and daily user of Vikings Blade products for quite some time. I love their razors, brushes, shaving cream, and now, their razor blades. Am I biased? Yes. But only because I keep getting a magnificent result each and every morning I shave with their products. The Chieftain brought me back to traditional wet shaving. These blades keep me there! Welcome home, my son, again!

Top of the Line, I will never go back!
First of all I fit the description of these blades and do not need an aggressive shave. I’ve been using Astra blades with my two mild Vikings Blade safety razors (Godfather and Vulcan) and for the heck of it finally tried one of the blades that came with the razors. I will never go back. These Viking blades are everything they claim to be, and yes they last twice as long as Astra blades. I just dispensed of one today after 6 uses. It could have gone longer. Other blades I have tried always started tugging while going against the grain around day 3. Also there are some places on my neck that other blades could never shave without razor burn, until I tried these blades. No problem. These blades might be designed to be mild but they are sharp and stay sharp. It’s such a strange scenario, how they can be so sharp but with such mildly smooth performance. It’s difficult to explain because it’s usually the sharper the blade the more aggressive shave. This is pure comfort. They provide such a smooth shave that is such a sharp but mild profile that it’s almost like shaving with an expensive 5 Blade cartridge razor without the burn. Try these, such a great shaving experience and what a difference it is, and so worth the few extra bucks. 50 blades at twice the usage time = 100 blades. I have not had one nick or bleeder since I started using them. Used up all my free blades and had to order more. Now I understand why there was such high demand for them. I sure hope Vikings Blade continues to offer these incredible blades. They really are top of the line and well worth the money. Take the plunge.

Best I’ve found so far (but haven’t tried many)
These are the best blades I have found, but then again I have not tried too many and I don’t need to look any further. I bought a 10 pack of these and a 10 pack of their Cayenne blades back in Nov 2023. It’s now Dec 2025, two years on and I just started using number 16 out of the 20. I shave 4 times a week and each blade lasts me about a month and a half. Both types, the Cayanne and Mild, work great. I don’t think I have a preference of one over the other. I am going to buy a 50 pack and it will last me over 6 years! A real bargain in my book.

They don't cut up my face! But they don't last long...
I used to always by Astras; they are dirt cheap and the sharpest pieces of metal i have ever seen packaged in a box. Unfortunately, they are also paper thin and tend to be unforgiving when shaving in the morning before dawn when half asleep, running late, and the mirror is still fogged up after a shower. These Vikings are thicker and tend to be much more forgiving. Fresh out of the box, even with less than perfect technique, they are buttery smooth perfection and shave close enough that I tend to skip shaving all together the next day. The second shave is usually ok, but after that, it ends up feeling like shaving with a rusty sawblade, and I end up with a carved up face to match. So far, these work the best for me, and I plan to keep buying them. However, their short life versus the Astras keeps me from giving them a perfect 5 stars.

Best blades!
These are the best blades I've ever used. I got these a month ago and I just started using the second blade. I got around 15-18 shaves (total for both sides) out of the first blade. I have sensitive skin and do get some irritation but it's nothing like it was. The shaves are constantly smooth and no razor burn. I highly recommend these blades to anyone.

Surprised with the quality, cost per shave is actually lower than cheaper blades
These blades might seem pricey but at four perfect shaves per edge they are actually a great deal and I will never buy any other brand.

Great Double Edge blades for safety razor
I just started using a safety razor and I decided to use this brand to pair with my Vikings Blade Safety Razor. I am filipino and I don't have a tremendous amount of facial hair. I have more on my mustache and goatee than a full beard to shave. I tend to shave every 2-3 days since I don't have a need to do it any more often. I find this razor to work well for my needs. I can get probably 3-4 shaves before switching to a new razor. I will switch it once the razor starts hurting to shave as it will pull the hairs rather than cutting them. Safety razors have been a new thing for me and I do enjoy using them more than other razors I have in the past. I feel like they give me a closer shave compared to multiblade razors that cost so much more. I feel these will last longer and the cost savings is a lot better. I may try the semi-aggresive blades on the next run, but that will be months away from now.

Cost and performance
I got fed up with spending lots of money on razors and adding all that plastic to landfills. I purchased the cute rose-gold colored razor and tried it out. There is a slight learning curve; you have to maintain the right angle, and slow down. It doesn’t take me longer to shave though, because I don’t need to make repeated strokes over areas that didn’t get shaved well on the initial pass. I also find that the shave is closer so I don’t need to shave every day. I used to get tremendously itchy legs after shaving. I would sometimes itch them until they bled. That no longer happens. I am not sure if it is due to the quality of the blades, or that I started using the Viking tea tree and aloe body wash for shaving. It is marketed for men, but I don’t think the smell is prohibitively “manly” for me to use it. (I also have been using their under eye cream. ) I can use one of these blades for about 3 -4 weeks before needing to switch. That is a huge savings. Women’s plastic razors are so expensive and definitely don’t last that long. With the quantity of blades I purchased, I won’t need to resupply for several years. I have only nicked myself twice, both times around my ankle, but that is a difficult place to shave with any razor. I will also mention that the sides of the blade are sharp too, so pay attention!

Super sharp and last long. I think one blade may last me up to 3 weeks before I need to change.
