IT WOULD BE BETTER TO ADD A LITTLE MORE MONEY AND GET A BETTER ONE MINE BURNED UP ON THE SECOND DAY

I like every thing about it.

I bought this router to mount in a horizontal router table that I use occasionally for mortises. I expect it will work fine for my purposes. This is an inexpensive router that should not be expected to perform as well as routers costing two to three times as much. Nevertheless, you should know what you are buying. Here are my observations.-- The motor runs well without too much vibration and the collet looks to be adequately machined. The lower bearing gets very hot; which concerns me a little. I did not check runout, but it seems to cut smoothly.-- The collet is 1/2” and came with 3/8” and 1/4” reducing bushings. The reducing bushings are likely the cause of slippage reported by others.-- The top of the router is rounded so it does not stand up when inverted. This makes cutter changes awkward.-- The base casting comes with burrs and bumps that can be easily removed with a file. The casting had not been machined on the bottom where the base plate mounts. This caused the router to rock. I lapped the casting on a sheet of sandpaper. Alternatively, shims could be placed between the base plate and the casting.-- The screwdriver socket on one of the base plate mounting screws came stripped. Since the screw is indented, it took some ingenuity to get it loose. Don’t confuse the 5mm base plate screws with the more common #10-32 screws.-- There is no provision for mounting the base casting to a jig or fixture other than the base plate mounting holes. These have little depth and the casting is very soft. It will be very easy to cross-thread the holes. I prefer mounting holes that go all the way through the casting so I don’t have to find screws (or cut them) that are just the right length.-- The plastic ring provides a scale only. It does not raise or lower that bit as in other units I’ve used. In order to change the depth of cut, you twist the router motor in the base.-- The collet (and thus the cutter) is not centered on the base plate and the depth of cut adjustment has considerable play. Adjusting the depth of cut changes the orientation of the cutter to the base plate making accurate multiple passes to complete a cut nearly impossible.I give this router a 3. While it does not do everything well, it meets my needs at a great price.

For those who might be wondering, the motor housing is 3.5" in diameter.

Very good router for the money. I compared it to my Porter Cable !.5 hp. Rpm's are higher which is great for small router bits but not as good for larger bits. A rheostat can be used to reduce the speed if necessary for what you are doing.I purchased mine at least a year ago and found the collet mechanism was compressed. Harbor Freight replaced it albeit it took some time. This is where this clone is less than its more expensive counter part. Even older Craftsman routers have an attachable collet.It worked well in that it cut wood as well as my porter cable, but due to higher rpm running speed the motor got much warmer that my PC router.This router has great fit and finish. It's pretty! The mounting plate is of a lesser quality than the PC.I haven't used it much since the comparison test. I'd planed on making it a table router but the poor collet design suggests problems for heavy changing of router bits and sizes.If you're an occasional or light home projects person, I'd say it's good for the budget.For more usage I'd spend more money.I'm donating this to my sister in law who is a crafter wanting to learn to use a router.Hope this helps.
