It takes one AA alkaline battery. I would use Energizer or even Ray O Vac as they produce 1.61 volts, and the copper top only puts out 1.5 volts and a higher defect rate.

Are the hands made of real wood or plastic?

The hand of the wall clock is made of real wood. Looks pretty for office.

Is this wall clock silent?

Mine was so silent that I thought the clock or my battery was dead when I first installed the battery. I have to put my ear right to the clock to barely hear it.

Does this clock make a ticking sound?

YES, it does. I had mine for a month and a half before I started hearing it. I can’t stand ticking nor can I sleep with the ticking of a clock. This clock is modern/stylish but I gotta remove it from my bedroom.
