Be careful with valerian

Be careful that your cat is happy with valerian. I got it because my cat does not respond to catnip. This toy is very cute but the valerian freaked my cat out. He attacked the toy and then became afraid of it. And then afraid of other things (like me!) It was like a bad trip. His behavior did not return to normal for over 24 hours. I don't know if this is a common reaction but worth considering. If you do try the toy perhaps just let the cat sniff it briefly before giving him the toy. Also perhaps let the toy "air out" before using so the first exposure will not be super strong.
