Can you use this as a surface to write on? I don’t want to damage my desk so I want a placemat but want to make sure it writes well w/ this underneath

I tried to write on paper with a ball point pen and the tip is pushing a little hole into the paper. I would not recommend.

Is this machine washable? It stains easily and would like to wash.

It should do fine in machines that do not have an agitator in the middle, otherwise spot clean with a cloth
