Got my BFP!!!
First Response is one of the leading brands in fertility testing kits and pregnancy home test kits, especially in the United States. but ultimately, almost all now give reliable (more than 99 per cent) results. The key is in finding one where the test is easy and convenient to do, the results are easy to read, and in most cases, one which you can trust to give you pretty accurate results as soon as possible. First Response are extremely reliable earlier than many other brands - as early as six days before your regular period would be due. Given that until quite recently, almost all kits were not recommended for reliable results until at least a week after your period should have started, the First Response kit really has brought the nail-biting wait down! Pregnancy tests work by detecting a certain hormone (HCG) in your urine (wee). This hormone is released as soon as you are pregnant and the amount of it in your body doubles every two days, which is why previously, the amount in your system by the time your next period was due made the test easy to detect. Now, kits like First Response can detect much lower levels of the hormone, hence their ability to give you a reliable result earlier on in the days after you conceive. Although some kits recommend only testing using the first urine sample of the day (because this is when the HCG level will be most concentrated), you can use First Response kits with any urine sample through the day. This is more convenient if you are half-awake in the morning and balancing test kits etc is all a bit much for you! Unwrap the test stick and get it ready as you go to the loo. Hold it under the stream of your urine for a few seconds. By the time you have finished going to the toilet, you will see a pink colour moving across the top of the stick (the 'window'); this shows the kit is working. After 3 minutes, you can read your result: two lines indicate you are pregnant, one line indicates you are not pregnant. The positive read-out will last for about 48 hours, but the negative read out may disappear after about 10 minutes so do not leave your test for more than a few minutes before taking a reading. It is important to note that whilst the kits are more than 99 per cent accurate, sometimes a pregnant woman might not yet have enough HCG in her system to confirm the pregnancy and she might get a negative result. If you have reason to think you are pregnant but the test is negative, check your period due date and try another test in a couple of days' time. (In the meantime, treat your body as if you may be pregnant and avoid alcohol, smoking etc.) If you get a positive result, you still need to see your GP to get the pregnancy confirmed as then you will be able to book in with a midwife and get the ball rolling. I'm due November 2010

Good, reliable test for me
I don't know why but I always go to First Response tests. I did a cheaper test first originally as i was too impatient waiting for my FR to be delivered which came up positive so I used the first response once it was delivered to just confirm. I still have 1 test left. I didn't use the test before my period, in fact it was 3 days late but that's a pretty strong positive to me. I had a miscarriage back in March and I used the same tests to confirm my pregnancy back in January, the line was just much lighter than I got this time. I also used the same test to confirm with my nearly 3 year old the day my period was due and got a good dark line then as well. Never had an issue with these tests, they are pricey but they do work but in all honesty so do some of the cheaper ones (£1 simple and clear early detection test under the FR) Don't know why I keep choosing early detection when I'm not testing early though, peace of mind i suppose I recommend but everyone's experiences are different

Sent an out of date product with no way to return.
Product has only been delivered today (15th Feb 2026), with an expiry date of 15th Feb 2026. I am unable to return this due to policies, but I’ve effectively been sent a useless product now and they aren’t exactly cheap. Extremely disappointed with this waste of money as results become less accurate once this date has passed.

Good test
First response is reliable when you are actually pregnant however sadly indent lines especially when testing quite early are so common and very cruel

Accurate early results....My first choice of test.
These have been the most accurate early results tests I've tried and having been pregnant many times I've tried a lot of tests. Sadly all but one of those pregnancies were not meant to be however am blessed to have one beautiful child (thanks to some amazing NHS doctors). But that's another story. Each time I suspected I had fallen pregnant these First Response Early Result tests were the ones that consistently gave me accurate results and the earliest positive results so they're now the ones I go to first. The box doesn't state the sensitivity level but a bit of research tells me these detect lower HCG levels than most other available tests which is why you can test from six days before your period is due. My periods are not exactly like clockwork so its difficult to say exactly how many days early I have had a positive result but I've certainly had a positive before I expected to start. These tests have also given me positive results when the doctors urine test was negative and blood tests have confirmed that the First Response test was indeed correct. I know that when you're hoping to get that positive result, that waiting to test until your period is due can seem like an eternity but there is one thing to bear in mind with very early response tests of any brand and it's something I know well from experience. Occasionally you may get the big fat positive you've been hoping for and suddenly you're on cloud nine only to be devastated a week later when your period arrives. I have had this happen to me. I got a very early positive result (on more than one occasion too) and blood tests confirmed the pregnancies. But a week or two later what seemed like a period but was in fact very early miscarriage would start. The emotional rollercoaster this causes can be very upsetting so it's worth bearing this in mind if you are determined to test early. Had I not been under the care of doctors for repeated miscarriage and had these pregnancies confirmed by blood tests I may well have just assumed the tests had given me false positive results as many reviews have claimed these tests to have done, when in fact I have never had a false positive from one of these tests. I'm not saying that other people have not had false positives but it's not been the case for me. Anyway, you get two tests in a pack, individually wrapped to keep dry until use. The tests are really simple to use. Simply pee on the stick (or in a pot then dip the stick in for five seconds if you wish). Wait three minutes and then read the results. Try to hold off on going to the loo for a while before testing if you can so that your urine is more concentrated. Results are easy to read. One line for a negative result , 2 lines (even if it's a faint one) for a positive. Good luck!

I am in shock how fast & accurate this test was, it’s light but a positive test. I took this test early morning 11 days after testing positive during my ovulation & 8 days before the start of my next period. God has a plan. If you need fast results & can’t wait don’t waste anymore time get yourself this test!
