Does What It Says (ChromeOS review)
My Toshiba Satellite L-550 Pro laptop was ready for the e-waste shelf. I had the hard drive replaced back in 2015, so I wanted to take that out, as well as the RAM, before I dropped it at Curry's. Anyhow, the hard drive is the ol' Western Digital Black 500GB (WD5000LPLX). It has a 2.5-inch (Slim 7mm profile) form factor. The interface is SATA III. It is a little fiddly to get the drive in and slide it down, but once it clicks, you are confident it is inserted correctly. There is nothing to it. Remove the case top by sliding up and then lifting. Very easy to open. Plug in the included USB-A, turn it on, and it is plug and play. The Chromebox recognised the drive immediately. It was formatted into exFAT in less than a second. I did some file transfers and they were quick enough for me. I have no idea what speeds. I did transfer a couple gigs though. Now, I have a good external drive. The box says it is Windows and Mac compatible, but it works fine on a Chomebox, Chromebook whatever Chrome device you may have. Good, inexpensive purchase. Saves you from having to destroy a hard drive. The average person isn't capable of wiping it.

Great product
Best value for money, prompt delivery, perfect, fast and as described. Great way to render hard drive locked in your useless laptop as brand new external storage with this robust enclosure. Works without any difficulty and clear and easy steps to assemble.

Works great!
I bought this to be able to connect an SSD to my Nintendo Wii, but I will likely be buying another one of these to use with another HDD or SSD to create a portable hard drive in the future. I've used Sabrent products before, and I've always been impressed with how intuitive their products are and how easy they are to use. In the box there are some instructions along with the enclosure and a USB 3.0 A male-to-male cable. The enclosure is designed for 2.5" inch drives, and it's quite straightforward to fit the drive inside the enclosure. While the enclosure is mostly plastic, it feels very well-made and would offer some protection to the drive inside. The speed of the enclosure is going to vary greatly depending on the drive you have inside it, along with the system you are connecting it to, but I got the levels of performance I expected during my usage with the enclosure having virtually no negative impact on speeds. Overall, this is a great, affordable enclosure that can be used for various tasks. I look forward to using the one I currently have more going forward, but I feel like I will be purchasing an additional one shortly. Update - July 2024: I ended up ordering another one for my PS5, as I had a 1TB SATA SSD lying around that I wanted to use with the console, as I was running out of storage. Similarly to last time, the enclosure is working exactly as expected and works well enough to store more modern games on it without any noticeable performance loss. As a general rule of thumb, these enclosures are only as good as what you put in them, as well as other limitations such as the device it’s connected to. Once again, I'm more than happy with the result.

95% - Almost perfect
I bought this to hold a 2.5in SSD that I removed from my old PC, to use as a backup device for my new PC. It arrived the day after I ordered and is exactly as described. Additionally the video in the listing is one of the most useful I've seen on Amazon. Most of them are just puff pieces repeating how wonderful Product X. This video is actually useful, it shows you how to fit the drive into the enclosure and crucially advises about what drives will *not* fit. Now to the item itself. Altough the case is plastic it feels quite substantial. The case is quite stiff to open, but after that the SSD fitted exactly as shown in the video. I plugged it in, Windows detected it immediately and so far it's working fine. The only minor negative (and the reason I've marked it down slightly) is that it uses a USB-A male to USB-A male lead. It won't work with a USB-A to USB-C lead (either USB2 or USB3) so I can't use the front USB-C socket on my PC. This means that - as another reveiwer has said - you need make sure you don't lose the supplied cable. Personally I think it would have been better with a standard USB3 socket on the enclosure; you should then be able to use any USB3 lead. I don't have another USB-A to USB-A lead to hand so I can't check whether it will work with a different lead or whether you *must* use the supplied lead. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars Update 8/2/24: I emailed Sabrent Customer Service and they advised me that this enclosure will work with any USB-A male to USB-A male lead.

Gets job done easily for a cheaper price than competitors at a higher rate.
IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY PRESSING THE HELPFUL BUTTON BELOW. The product "Sabrent Hard Disk Drive Enclosure" is a perfect example of how there are many products that are expensive, but with some time and patience, one can find similar products for a cheaper price. Now, often you might not want to buy the cheaper version of a product, as they are often worse in quality. The Sabrent enclosure for your hard drive has many purposes. One purpose, the one which I purchased it for, was to recover data from a damaged laptop, but the hard drive was fine. You can also use it to connect a hard drive to your PC to use for backups. It can also make the hard drive work exactly like a USB. The case slides open and the lid comes off. You can also prop up the lid on the side of the case as I show in picture 4. There is an on/off switch on top which isn't much use to me. The button turns off the power to the enclosure and it turns off, not showing up on the computer anymore. You can just unplug it from your device if not wanting to use it, but be sure to eject the hard drive first. If the hard drive doesn't show up, It is likely a problem with your hard drive and not the enclosure. I tested this with different hard drives. The broken hard drives would often not show up, while the perfectly fine hard drives worked fine. The case is very easy to use. Just open the lid of the enclosure and plug in the hard drive to the hard drive connector pins. Plug the USB into the enclosure on one side, and into your pc or mac on the other side. I have tested the enclosure with Windows, Mac, and Linux. It performs perfectly well with all three. I would definitely recommend this product for you if you need to connect your hard drive some way to a computer. I have also installed windows using this on a PC. You can also use it to open up the pc which the hard drive was using to recover data if the PC breaks. You will just require another computer. Pros: - It is very lightweight - Requires no additional software, shows up as a USB - Easy to use - Helps get data on and off the hard drive. Cons: - The wire is a bit short - The LED can be a bit annoying at times. - Otherwise no issues. Final Verdict: This enclosure is perfectly well priced. I recommend you buy it if you need some way to connect your hard drive to a computer, whether it's for backups or data recovery, it will be the solution. Very fast with the right drive, and very easy to use
I originally bought this as a quick way to connect my old laptop drives so that I could make sure that everything was backed up before wiping them. Connecting the drives way easy, as they just slide in while the power's off. The lid just slides forward from the back when you want to put a drive in. Browsing and copying the files was fast and smooth, and there were none of the usual slowdowns you get when transferring files over USB. Where the enclosure came into its own though, was when holding an SSD. Copying files to and from the enclosed drive is very fast. I haven't noticed much of a difference between having the drive connected inside the computer. I've even used it as a boot drive to run Linux, and there are no slowdowns when running an operating system from an SSD in the enclosure. I'm writing the review now because I'm buying a second enclosure for my wife to use, as I've found it so much faster than a regular USB pen drive. Obviously it's bigger than a pen drive, but in my opinion, the massive increase in speed is worth it. The only downside is the cable. It's great and works excellently, but it's USB A on both sides, which tends to be unusual. It's not a major issue, but it does mean that if you break the cable, you're not likely to have a spare to hand. That's literally the only downside i've found to this enclosure though. I highly recommend it :)

Excellent Quality, Simple, and Works Perfectly
I bought the SABRENT 2.5 Inch SATA to USB 3.0 Tool Free External Hard Drive Enclosure (EC-UASP) after the USB connector on my previous external drive failed. Instead of replacing the whole drive, I removed the HDD and installed it into this enclosure—and I’m really glad I did. The build quality is excellent. It’s lightweight but still feels solid and durable. Assembly was incredibly easy—truly tool-free as advertised—and took just a couple of minutes. Performance has been flawless. It connected immediately, works perfectly, and I’ve had zero issues so far. It basically gave new life to my old hard drive. Overall, I couldn’t be more satisfied with this purchase. If you’re looking for a reliable, simple, and well-built enclosure, this is a great choice.
