Mark Ryden: The Gay '90s

The book is simply superb...full to the brim with fantastic paintings, well laid out and with detail shots which as the next best thing to seeing the paintings in the flesh and "flesh" does feature quite heavily too...a must have book which will exceed your expectations...highly recommended.

It should be recognised that this well produced and presented hardback book is actually the exhibition catalogue to the “Gay `90s” show from 2010. As such, there are only a limited number of paintings presented, but all the works exhibited in the show are here; the illustrations are large, full-colour reproductions of the paintings themselves, further photographs showing them in their elaborate frames and all the supporting drawings, sketches and porcelains from the show. The quality of the reproduction is excellent, the detail is first rate and there are a couple of gate-fold pages presenting the larger paintings. A thumbnail gallery index is included at the back together with a selection of reference/inspirational material collected and used by Ryden pertaining to the project. Texts are two brief essays introducing the artist and considering the work in the exhibition. While this is a very fine volume to have, you may like to consider Mark Ryden: Pinxit (Ju) which is a more comprehensive collection of the artist`s work; this catalogue, however, has some pieces of work (some drawings) not included in that volume. Do use the “Look inside” option above for a taster of the contents.

Okay but not the most exciting book I have read on an artist. To be honest for the price of it I would have hoped with a few more images of his work.

I found this book disappointing. If you want to know about Mark Ryden and how he constructs images, it is average. There are very few paintings / prints in the book. The book shows a few paintings and then spends several pages showing "details" from the prints. Nearly the whole second half of the book shows sketches / drawings at various stags of completion that are not particularly inspiring. If you want a little detail about Ryden's mind and how he constructs some of his images, then this book has a little of that. If you are looking for a decent collection of Ryden's paintings, then this book falls well short. I wouldn't recommend this book.

Tolle Bilder in wunderbarer Qualität. Wer auf Mark Ryden steht muss sich dieses Bildband kaufen. Ich habe mich wahnsinnig darüber gefreut :-)

I've waited a long time to see this collection called The Gay 90's, and I can only say that I was smiling the entire time as I looked through this last night, I mean I was GIDDY!!! I'd never heard of Mark Ryden until about 5 years ago...some new friends came to my apartment and saw how I decorated and knew I would love his work. They were so right. Kitsch has never been so beautiful and hilarious as when this man shares on canvas what his mind sees. I feel incredibly lucky to own a copy of this book, I hope there are enough copies to satisfy all his fans. Thanks Amazon!!!

不思議サーカスもこのくらいの大きさの版で出していただきたかったなあ。グロテスクだけどマークライデンの描く女の子は皆かわいいんですよね。

j'ai acheté cet album sans savoir vraiment le contenu , plutôt au nombre de pages et avis, mais je cherchais plutôt une retrospective des divers themes de l'artiste, or, il s'agit de ses dernieres peintures et esquisses de 2017 j'ai recommandé l'album "pinxit" qui retrace l'ensemble de ses tableaux les plus connus entre "bunnies et bees et tree show" en complement celui ci contient un peu de lecture sur l'artiste (en anglais) et pas que des images,ce qui est aussi interessant

Assim como o trabalho de Ryden, o acabamento do livro é impressionante. Uma peça de colecionador.
